I don't see 360 listed in AV-Comparatives Performance tests anymore. How is it in terms of system performance impact nowadays?

It's is one of the lightest antiviruses there is, but other well known antiviruses typically provide better protection.

For a friend's laptop, would you install Panda Free or 360?

Of all mentioned in the following links i would go either with Bitdefender or Avira. Kaspersky is Russian so, no.
Panda does well in official tests but does badly when it comes to behviour blocking in private tests. A rather well known fact.

If your friend has a week Pc and therefore needs a lighter Av than Ms Defender, i would first try out Avira before BD.

got it, my only gripe with Panda and BitDefender is that you need to create an account, activate it, then login and I do this a lot so its becomes a hassle which is why I was considering 360 or even Kaspersky if it doesn't need an account and is still not installing their VPN (AKA Hotspot shield) silently and I don't really care if they're Russian to be honest.

does Avira free need an account? Last I tried it, it had their Avira Launcher which I hate.

Not a lot, only 1 time. Save the passwords and it will not be a hassle.

I am not sure what Avira launcher is but Luke is gone. I just tried it and there where no forced account creation and just, install and use. Simple.
360`s file and registry protection is very chatty, very, so it can in that way be experienced as a hassle and make a novice uncertain.

There is a Av that still is in Beta but is more like a done problem free product and are VERY secure according to test done by for instance Cruelsister.
No account, installs easily, light on system and small. According to the chinese developers it will be almost the same features as now when released, only some, for a basic user, not so important features will be locked. WiseVector StopX, it has a thread at Malwaretips. It is probably just what you are looking for.

I wouldn't install either. They've both extremely light, but there are better alternatives. Kasperksy Free would be a much better option.

Try benchmarking with something like NovaBench to see which one is lightest.

I wish try it, but I wonder if it's safe considering that it's a Chinese product. Some feedback ?

It's safe. But although it's not a terrible antivirus, there are better alternatives. As a result, it's not a product I recommend. I was using it for quite some time, but eventually switched to something else. Because 360 can be run alongside another antivirus I still have it installed, but with all realtime protections disabled.

I have a question. Some years ago I tested this company's AV. The other version they had that was less bloated. I don't know if it was called Essentials or something. I had my doubts with this AV because at the time it wouldn't detect Eicar. Now I understand that Eicar is not a virus but it is a way to safely test if realtime protection is working. So my question is this. For the people that have used this AV. Has it detected anything for you ? I don't even know how the detection alert looks like.

Yes it certainly does detect malware. Also, it's behaviour blocking provides alerts quite often when installing or updating apps, which can be an annoyance if you regularly install software.
