New version of OEC PRO (v3.2.71) available (august 30, 2022)

NEW FEATURES
- More strict error checking in the Account Properties for the Port setting (if one types port 995 but forgets to check TLS checkbox, then it is auto-checked automatically, the same for port 110 where it is unchecked - the same auto-fix is applied to outgoing server port setting as well as NNTP server port setting)
- Additional verification and error in the Account Wizard when creating Google OAUTH2 account - the account scopes are verified. If a user doesn't grant OE Classic full access to all scopes, the error is shown and account is not created in OE Classic. This avoids getting "Authentication failed" error when Google account is properly added but the access to the required scopes is not granted (scopes are specific sections of Google account such as Contacts, Email, Contacts Directory and Basic Settings, which are used by OE Classic to correctly operate using the OAUTH2 settings)
- Additional details for some specific errors to help us diagnose bugs in the future (if needed) and thus increase program reliability
- Improved Windows version detection and utilizing some of the specific features depending on the Windows version. Contact form and log reports (Help!) should now work on Windows 7 as well - where it misbehaved previously.

BUG FIXES
- Typing "W" character in the Message Editor didn't work when Dutch localization was selected
- Additional fix for STLS for POP accounts. Now the STLS support is dynamically detected and if a server supports it - it is utilized to secure the connection and if the server doesn't support it, then OE Classic proceeds with lower security as it is unable to secure the connection.

BUG FIXES
- Fixed too large font for drop-down popup when typing in contact name in To/Cc/Bcc fields on High-DPI setting in Windows
- Issue with Earthlink and a few more servers where STLS command was issued all the time, fixed by removing STLS support for those servers when using a POP account

- Fixed issue with incorrect encoding of the Subject/To/Cc headers when receipt confirmation was sent.
- Fixed "Access Violation" when pressing CTRL+SHIFT+B in the Message Editor ("Open Address Book" shortcut), and additional Address Book related fixes in the Message Editor.
OE Classic 3.2.73 (2022-09-19)
- Further strengthening of the code from 3.2.72 to avoid "OLE" errors when closing the program.

OE Classic 3.2.72 (2022-09-14)
- Fixed Google OAUTH2 which could report "Authentication failed" under certain circumstances, when it could use outdated authentication token.
- Fixed possible "Access Violation" errors when closing the program.
No new features are being introduced at this stage (to avoid adding new bugs) as we're preparing for the "stable" release which will follow as soon as possible.

 

Are there any persons who read this and who have a good knowledge of the danish language ? If so, then perhaps you want to become the new danish translator for Outlook Express Classic ? Are there more people willing to help the developers of OEC with "translating" the program into their own language that is not yet available in OEC ?

 

What happened to the "old" Danish translator? I thought English-to-Danish localization has long been taken care of.

 

The danish translator somehow has given up. Don't know the reason why. If you go through the danish translation file then you'll see that are still a number of untranslated lines of text.

Topic: translators for OEC.

OEC still needs to be (fully) translated into (at least) 5 languages; finnish, danish (see above), slovak, bulgarian and romanian (am I missing some languages ??). Are there any people who have good knowledge of these languages and want to become the translators for these languages for Outlook Express Classic ? Or perhaps your language isn't included in OEC (yet) and you want to translate OEC for your language ? If so, then please contact the developers of OEC:

More information about the changes in the latest versions of OEC v3.2.78 and v3.2.79 (Source: OEC's Facebook page):

- Improved support for multiple languages.
Sort the (language) files of OEC on "Date modified" to see which (language) files have been updated/modified. Right now, not all language files have been updated yet.
- Some bug fixes/improvements are too small/minor or "buried too deep" in the program code to be mentioned in the "Readme.txt" file. I know because I reported some of those bugs which have been fixed in previous versions.

- If you have an Outlook/Office365/Microsoft365/............. account then you MUST read what's hidden in the "spoiler" below !!!!

OE Classic 3.2.78 (2022-11-08 )
New features:
- Internal support for Yahoo accounts. We are not yet verified yet, so the support can’t be added until we get through the verification process, but we’re working on it and the code is ready-to-go, once we do get verified. Hopefully, the verification process won’t take too long.
- New localized texts – in the Send/Receive window. We’re gradually updating the translations as translators complete the translations, and a good number of languages has already been updated – thank you all translators for the work and for being prompt!
Bug fixes:
- Changes in incremental search – now it starts from the current position rather than from the beginning. Incremental search is a feature where you click for example in the list of folders and start typing to jump to a particular folder with the name you’ve typed. This has previously jumped to a first folder (message, contact) in the list, now it jumps to the one which follows the current position. For example, you can press “g” key and it will go through all the folders which start with “g”. Previously it would just jump to the first one and stay there without cycling through all of them. And if you type faster, you will jump to a folder starting with the typed-in letters. For example, if you type “oec” it may jump to a folder named “OEClassic” if you have such a folder. We’ve also checked, the incremental search feature in Outlook Express 6 and it behaves very much the same like it does in OE Classic right now.

OE Classic 3.2.79 (2022-11-14)
New features
- Pasting email addresses into To/Cc/Bcc fields now supports multiline items. For example, you can paste your email list from an Excel table and you don’t have to add a comma separator as OE Classic will automatically convert new lines into the comma separator and paste each line as a separate email address.
- OE Classic is now verified publisher for Outlook/Office365/Microsoft365 accounts and this completes that process. This version redirects to a different authentication page. Unfortunately, a mistake was made which can’t be corrected in our updates. As previous update had unverified publisher which was added under the wrong Azure AD account, we had to create a new application under different Azure AD account to get the verified publisher checkmark. Since the ID of the application is now different, this means that you will have to delete all previously added Outlook/Office365/Microsoft365 accounts (added in the older version of OE Classic – which are 3.2.77 and 3.2.78 ) and add them again, using this version 3.2.79. So please - delete any previously added accounts for this server type and add them again, after updating to this version. We recommend doing this as soon as possible as it appears that the accounts which are added with “unverified” publisher can cause issues and we will eventually delete the unverified publisher application so it will then report an error when you try to load messages from that account.
Bug fixes
- There was a bug in a third-party component which caused freezing when opening Message Editor window when the window was too narrow (horizontally). This version should fix that problem.

 

- The company that develops OEC now has a YouTube channel with currently 2 instruction videos for OEC. I assume more videos will be posted in the future.

Bug fix:
[2022-12-07] Fixed spell checker freezing on rare occasions.

Still waiting for OEC v4.00 (?). Perhaps there are still one or more (major??) issues that need to be fixed that delay the release of that version ? That would explain why there are still (small ??) new features added to new versions of the PRO version of the program.

Does anyone know how I can turn an "active weblink" to e.g. YouTube into a "passive one" (like the one in the previous post) that doesn't violate the rules of posting on this website/forum ?

A follow up question:
To be honest: I don't know why it is not allowed to link to e.g. a Youtube channel but why it is allowed to link to a website / webpage (e.g. the Outlook Express Classic website). I must confess I don't see why there is a difference between the two.
