Thank you for that, @DavidXanatos. It would edifying to see an outfit like AV-Comparatives, MRG Effitas, or even a competent and reliable YouTube tester run Sandboxie through the hoops to check the current results.

 

I think there might something be seriously wrong on my machine, because I just noticed that I also can't sandbox pictures with XnView. I see that a sandboxed openwith.exe quickly pops up and then the process is killed. So perhaps I will have to perform a complete reinstall of Sandboxie and also clean my sandboxes. It seems like in the sandbox, no registered apps are found by Sandboxie, or something like that.

 

I get your point, perhaps this problem won't happen again. But I'm pretty sure that Sandboxie played a role, it was probably a corrupted sandbox. But anyway, at this moment I believe it's the right choice for me. Exploit attacks on home users are quite rare nowadays, and besides this, SpyShelter's keystroke encrytion still doesn't work with sandboxed processes.

When I add folders in the Options>File Recovery>Quick Recovery in Sandboxie Plus 1.4.1 and click Apply, the folders I added disappear. I also noticed the setting 'Use a Sandboxie login instead of an anonymous token (experimental)' appears twice in Global Settings>Advanced Config and in Options>Security Options>Advanced Security.

 

Options>File Recovery>Quick Recovery bug, willbe fixed asap

'Use a Sandboxie login...' thats intentional you can configure the default global behavioure as well as configure individual boxed to behave differently on a per box basis

You have to enable the template "Enable Microsoft Edge compatibility workaround" under "Compatibility".

 

LOL! I have that same problem. It takes me longer and longer when doing a clean install. I think a lot of the settings are overkill and not needed. To me, Sandboxie should be that extra layer of security to protect your computer, as well as other programs from being infected or screwed up, and that's it.

In the future, I REALLY hope someone takes the time to explain in detail, but in a simple way, what each setting does and maybe provide an example. I know David has done some of this which has helped explain a few things but in the future, a guide should be mandatory, especially for new users. It would be nice to have two versions of Sandboxie Plus, like a lite version which gives you just the protection settings and a balls out version with all the bells and whistles. I think that's why a lot of older users prefer Sandboxie Classic, because it's the same familiar UI with just the protection settings. Having a Sandboxie Plus Lite with the updated UI maybe could replace Sandboxie Classic. I took the time to switch from Classic to Plus familiarizing myself with where the settings I used and needed in Classic to where they were in Plus. In the end, I really liked Plus. Hopefully, a lite version will be considered in the future.

 

The "Enable Microsoft Edge compatibility workaround" should be offered by the compatibility wizard on windows 10/11 systems

 

Black means it it is suggested if you click OK it will set and become a check box next time you open that view, if you choose cancel nothing will be set if you open the dialog it will be a black box again.
if you explicitly unchecked it it will be remembered as a rejected template and unchecked

Well it was important to me to visually distinguish the templates which are already applied, from those that are being suggested right now, hence the use of this semi checked state.
Its a checkbox state existing in windows since 95 (or 98 not sure, to long ago), also negatively supported by qt.

In the calsic UI you never see why teh compatybility assistent opened, it is just open and a lot of stuff checked no way of telling what is new

 

Since I switched to Sandboxie "+" ... I don't even try to keep up with all of the available tinkerings with the settings. I've been installing the latest versions, sandbox my handful of chromium based browsers.
So far, no major glitches unless I'm missing out on seriously major protection levels by not clicking on that one or more highly recommended box in the settings that would elevate this app to "super" Sandboxie status.

I'm running a paid for version of VoodooShield and top it off with DeepFreeze 95% of the time. So, as long as my browsers are proficiently functional and I can see that lovely yellow borderline around my browsers' GUI
I'm (kind of) comfortable with that.

As I've mentioned before, it sure would be spectacular to see a published and reliable current review and testing on exactly how effective this app is after the so many numerous and recent revisions this app has gone through.
A substantial number of people inside and outside of Wilders pay scrupulous attention to a plethora of options when shopping for AV/AM vendors based on YouTube reviews, AV-Comparatives, etc.

Is it possible to override the AppData/UserProfile environment variables for programs installed into a sandbox (assuming programs use them)? I believe you used to be able to do it with Expandable Variables but they don't appear to work anymore.

I want an app installed into a sandbox to write it's profile to my d:\ drive. Unless of course there's a way of redirecting one folder to another in sandboxie. I haven't tried symoloc links yet, but I'd rather avoid those if there's a better way.

 

Is this is a suggestion for a brand new name or just sarcasm?
