Oo--didn't expect such a quick turn-around. OK, will check this out in the next couple of days. Doesn't seem to be too much over and above what's already in my uBO dashboard. So hopefully, it won't be a long drawn-out process to improve Firefox's performance.

Firefox is the browser that needs fewer rules in the adblocker than other browsers.
Chrome more than Edge.
I, on the other hand, like to subscribe (if possible) to the minimum number of rules for the various browsers.

It was probably the Firefox lists in my daughter's Linux pc.
Who no longer lives in my house,so I can't check.

 

What is the preferred method to block static and gif images in uBlock?
My settings don't block these.

 

If you mean, why, referred to Firefox for 2 reasons:

• The internal anti-trackers functionality is better performing than Edge's as I recently demonstrated.
• The ability to resolve CNAME-cloaked trackers allows it to adopt DEDICATED lists that inherently have a much lower number of rules than chrome-based browsers

Thanks, now I understand. IMHO your first statement doesn't address all sites. E.g. on the site https://www.fastcompany.com/ Edge's strickt blocking mode performs a little bit better (28 blocks) than FF's strickt blocking mode (26 blocks). However uBlock Origin default mode in FF does a much better job: 49 blocks (FF internal blocking disabled). As I said in my post in another thread, the strict blocking in both browsers is very weak.
By the way, https://www.fastcompany.com/ is an extraordinary tracker (see https://whotracks.me/).

 

It is very difficult to run reliable tests on that website because I assume that the content displayed changes quite frequently.
However interesting.

 

It's not a surprise, but for me the only really interesting point is that if you want serious ad- and tracker blocking, uBlock Origin is a must.

 

ublock cant do this. only by setting (Firefox, pref), or extension.

 

OK, step one of prob. many here but I had "Custom" tracking protection ticked. Went to "Strict" and my score improved to 93% (from 90%) Standard settings gives me 88%.

OK, now to see about my filter lists--but seriously, right now, I'm seeing very little in the way of ads and other intrusive things. And def. no "personalized" tracking or ads (good lord ).

 

Honestly I find this thread completely confusing for probably the last couple years at least, with endless, random filters being posted to solve specific privacy problems for different browsers, there's no way to figure out what the current, ideal and most effective filter list selection combined with additional filters works best for the most popular browsers. To add to the problem, it seems that the Internet landscape changes often, making filters that were effective yesterday, non-effective today, requiring either a modification to it or something else completely different.

I appreciate the time and effort of the few gurus in this thread who post these filter solutions, but it's just too frequent and random to follow properly.

Perhaps it might be beneficial to post, in addition to the normal daily posts, the most effective current Filter list and My Filters selections for each of the popular browsers? Just a thought.

 

there exist no such list, nor will it fit all users.
uBo in its basics is very good. the major problem for chromium based will be the reduced amount of entries due MV3. firefox is not concerned, not yet.

 

Yeah I've often thought about keeping things simple and just going with the recommended filter lists from the uBlockO site.

 

Can uBlock Origin change or block a referrer?
