hi, jeff. is the disk in question an hdd or an ssd?

 

As a fellow Webroot user, here's my opinion for what it's worth (or not worth!):

Personally, I've never used Webroot's Secure Erase tool, and for all I know it may be brilliant. However my personal experience is that, with the exception of their Password Manager (I don't use it myself, but basically it's a LastPass license, which is supposed to be a really good password manager) and their System Optimizer which is a reliable workhorse based on the first product Webroot ever came out with—Window Washer—I've learnt to give Webroot's "bells and whistles" as I call them a pretty wide berth. Personally, I wholeheartedly agree with you about the quality of their AV and everything that's associated with it. Not so much, however, the various (non-AV) programmes they throw in with their Internet Security Plus and Internet Security Complete packages.

As I say, just my 2 cents worth — your and other people's mileage may vary .

HDD and also just as fast on external HDDs as well. Interestingly, if I open a folder and select all for example if the files are high res then Webroot slows down and then it takes a bit for it to shred all of them.

Yeah, certainly agree with all your points--and Windows Washer was one of my favs ooh so long ago... I thought maybe even N Rubenking might have noticed this kind of curiousity in his latest review of Webroot complete, but just commented on that one should change the default setting to 3 or 7 since there isn't a secure deletion at default level.

Oh, I forgot you were still on here helping too! Nice to 'see' you Yes Tyler answered my question and I put a support ticket in like he said anyway. I tried that sort of strange method mentioned a few years ago by unchecking rechecking menu enabled and rebooting but not sure if that worked.

I decided to try WRSA and requested a trial. I received an email with the download link and a trial key and proceded with the setup (several times over). While I'm positive I'm entering the key correctly I keep getting the following screen?

 

Not sure I have never tried a Trial. If it continues contact Webroot Sales and ask for a new Trial keycode.

I went with this a few years back because it's light on resources. It was conflicting with sandboxie, but I never figured out what caused it. However, it does have an identity and web shield, so I stuck with that.

Any comments on its performance today? I use this in combination with the pre-installed firewall and virus scan in Microsoft.

 

It's still the same very light on resources and did you ever contact Webroot Support about the issue with sandboxie? If not Submit a Support ticket and wait for a reply before adding more info! Webroot Customer Service

 

No I never thought of contacting them LOL. I went to forums but couldn't figure it out. Thanks for the tip.

 

Good luck with support. I was one of their original customers and I got worse than zero support and response to an issue that should have been easily solved. I dumped them and have not looked back.

 

I have a Dell laptop, Inspiron 15, 3000 Series, Intel core i3, about four or five years old. Started slowing down over the years and then I tried a whole series of antiviruses which never found any viruses but I continued to experience a slowing down of the operation of the laptop. I knew that Webroot was pretty light and hadn't tried it for awhile, so I got a good deal with Webroot Antivirus, and installed it. After a reboot, the computer's performance changed dramatically, and it's almost back to normal operating speed. I don't know what happened, but I guess I'll stay with Webroot as long as I have this computer.

 

Your computer is running faster because Webroot on the whole is very light and some alternatives are much heavier. But there are several other antiviruses that are usually very light too.

 

What antivirus did you had before Webroot?

 

I first tried ESET, which amazingly did not load and reversed the installation saying reboot and try again. Then I installed Bitdefender, and it was okay for awhile but then after slowing down after several days, I tried Webroot.

 

ESET not installing may indicate OS corruption which may be causing the slowdown you felt.

 

Bitdefender in theory, needs a few days to adapt to your computer and then it will become lighter.

 

Actually the same with Webroot SecureAnywhere and it's always been the lightest on resources even with the extra 2 processes in Beta for it's new Anti-Ransomware module.
