I legit thought 7-zip was abandonware at this point. Great to see it being updated.

FYI maybe it's just me. I had v19 installed W7P64 working perfectly. Uninstalled it. Installed 21.05 & the 7-zip icon was missing on ALL compressed files & start menu entry. I uninstalled & installed a few times, nada. What worked was I right clicked on the start menu entry & selected change Icon. I selected of the two the unfamiliar (new) one. Now all my 7-zip icons are back. Really weird though.

in the past 3 years 7z got a lot of security fixed, not updating an archiver is absolute no-go because of malware prepped archives. hell... and yes you should update rather you loose settings or not.

Thank you and I am not sure I even customized it so not afraid to loose setings.

    Can I just rename 7-Zip.chm to 7-Zip.chmxxx?

Apart from the fact this is a 7-zip thread (consider starting a thread for your suggestion) I just downloaded and installed the explz862_en_x64 version on Win 10 Pro in Shadow Defender.
First fact... it installed to the (x86) folder
Second fact it also has a .chm help file

Is the .chm file considered the issue or is this a 7-zip issue or a combination of the 2?

I'm not too sure. Somethings don't seem to use them now, using an online HTML help instead

The company I work for provides .chm files with our products. I was just wondering if there was a greater issue I needed to be aware of.

    You could try xCHM. :)
    [Edit]
The above link is probably not the official one, according to the maintainer of this Github repo:
    https://github.com/rzvncj/xCHM

Only source code available there however.

It's available as a package on Linux distro's.
Arch Linux. Debian. Gentoo. FreeBSD. NetBSD. Mint Linux. Solaris. CentOS / RedHat 5.3, by Oliver Niesner. Ubuntu. SuSE. T2 SDE Linux. Fedora.

    MacPorts provides xCHM.

CHM is a compiled html+files file in an archive compatible to ZIP. its the combination of 7z and its chm.

open the chm with 7z itself and have a look.

easy to resolve - push chm into sandboxie and let the box clear after usage :D

replacement with "pdf" wont help, it is not able to start from 7z because of jump marks.
