yes, it's slow to launch, cold start in particular. i think it's due to gecko/quantum engine.

I'm confused about the difference between the official Firefox portable version vs the ones from Portable Apps? Why would one use them vs the official ones?

Mozilla has no official portable build!

There exist two portables - that from PA, and one from camp-firefox which is based on the work of a german blogger. last one is very purified, but at least it do same as that from PA. PA has bloated and complicated code, even myself has not understood it all. its compatible to its own portable suite, but not really needed that way.

this code is the essence of it all
    Code:
    cd "Firefox"
    firefox.exe -profile "..\Profilordner"
    where
    Code:
    loader[.com|.exe|.bat] (using code from above)
    \firefox\firefox.exe (and other files)
    \profilefolder\ contains the profile

always use "loader[.com|.exe|.bat]" to launch firefox, do not set firefox as default browser.

at least writing _perfect_ portables is not that hard. PA portables are not perfect. but they are allowed by author of the program, thats pretty important for distribution.

to run several portables firefox same time you need to add "-no-remote" for all instances.

    @Spartan
with the help of a couple of apps, you can create your own portable fox. or you can use pa platform's installer to create your portable fox. or you can just use a file extractor and a batch file to create your own portable fox.

    Just some strange observation.
    There is a web-site bash.ws
It checks for any IP, DNS, etc... leaks.

When I use only the Desktop VPN app with Wireguard, then my Firefox shows two open ports.

When I turn an VPN add-on/PROXY for Firefox, then I have a different situation.
Here is my report on open ports with Ivacy add-on.

    Here is with FastestVPN add-on/Proxy:

Here is my port situation with VeePN add-on/Proxy:

What's going on with those Open Ports?

    Another question about Firefox.

Yahoo has resumed (in a very limited way) its comment section, but...
I can't see those comments with Firefox.
I've removed ALL my add-ons from Firefox but it does not help.
I see only empty space where the comment area should be.

I can see comments with Chrome, Edge, Brave, but not with Firefox, Osiris, or Epic.

What prevents Firefox from seeing the Yahoo comments?

Here is how that empty space looks with Brave.

Can you give a link to a specific story on Yahoo that has comments available? I use Firefox and was able to snag an open comments section a few months ago, and even post a comment there.

Eww, I hate disabling my extensions even for a second, Yahoo is just a mess when you do that. But, I got the same as you, zmechys--no comments section using Firefox boxed, with three ext. active. Oddly, uBlock Origin didn't affect anything either way but when I just disabled Trace, the comments were available after a browser refresh. Oh, and the Privacy setting was on "strict" and Sandboxie had cleared caches a little while before.

So, in theory, Firefox will grant you comments access in Yahoo. But you said you disabled all your add-ons already. :doubt:

comments are iframe, if disabling ad blockers did not help its time to reset/refresh the profile because its messed up. very simple.

this (thread) is concerning firefox, not any additional filtering software in your system. thus i do not ask, and you did not tell. if you assume a quirked system then please ask in a separate thread because the question will exceed firefox as issue.

and yes, i can see comments when disabling ublock. thats why i can tell you about iframes. my settings (in firefox) are "custom" and fully enabled.

Are you using Windows? Edge may be preloaded at boot time, which will cause it to launch faster than FF.
You said you tested FF with the same add-ons and homepage, but is it also a a fresh profile? That might also make a difference.

I have a very old profile with lots of add-ons and Firefox still starts in a second [Linux]. :)
On Windows it starts slower though. Don't use it there much (virtual machine).

    Here is what I did.
I've left all my Firefox Add-ons.
    See below:
    Firefox-add-on.png

But, I've changed my Firefox privacy settings to Standard:

And now, I'm able to see the Yahoo comments, but...

Is it a good idea to leave Firefox Privacy settings to Standard, but with all my "required" add-ons?

I have followed your advice and was able to see the Yahoo comments while using the Custom Privacy settings for Firefox.

I've just unmarked the Tracking button.

    Edit.

    The plot thickens.

Just the final thought, and NO MORE questions about Firefox.

When I use SANDBOXED FIREFOX (Sandboxie from Dave), then I can leave my strict Privacy settings and I see comments.
When I DO NOT use Sandboxed Firefox - with the same Privacy settings, I don't see the Yahoo comments.

I don't know as you might have certain "power" filter lists in uBlock Origin that can cover any gaps. Over and above defaults, I only have CNAME tracking protection, that's it, and didn't need to disable it to view the comments.

I had the "Strict" privacy setting (not Custom) and was still able to access the comments. I'm glad you were able to resolve that by playing with the Firefox settings alone. Looks like I'll have to disable Trace myself whenever I have a severe need to view comments (which ain't often, that's for sure).

I've just updated my Firefox "issue."

When I use SANDBOXED FIREFOX (Sandboxie from Dave), then I can leave my strict Privacy settings and I see comments.
When I DO NOT use Sandboxed Firefox - with the same Privacy settings, I don't see the Yahoo comments.

I have the "Strict" privacy setting as well and I can see the comments.
    Firefox is not sandboxed.

same here. the problem might caused from a mixup of files inside and outside sandboxie and/or sandboxie rules concerning exclusions. even recovery can cause issues with a profile outside sandboxie because some data do not match settings and vice versa.
