Actually, I don't like it. The current one is balanced and in proportion. The new one seems lop-sided to me--plus, I like all the goods front and center and the various hardware readings under the tabs like it is now. Neat and clean.

It's mostly aesthetics and a matter of taste but that never stopped Microsoft from shoving its "rejuvenated" stuff down our throats.

It looks like they mostly moved the tabs from the top to the side. It functionally won't make much difference but it is more wasted space. It appears to be running from the same type of window that the settings apps are so I assume the are consolidating it into that. I don't feel strongly about it either way as long as they don't break anything.

I see the cumulative update that they released to the Dev channel on Friday despite claiming no feature changes fixes the taskbar issues I mentioned back in post 1288 of this thread. :shifty:

Is Windows 11 still leaking after all this time?
    It's everywhere now.

Thank you for this announcement. Another set-back for AMD--wow. I remember the Ryzen latency/cache issues affecting performance on Windows 11 not too long ago. I've seen already some people elsewhere posting their thinking about discarding their otherwise perfectly good Ryzens and switching to Intel.

Sad, I knew it was going to be this before I even read the article.

Looks like on Windows 11 it is only accessible from the old Control Panel power options and even then I would not be surprised it it was missing. At this point I just made my own utility in C# that turns it on or off and resets the services startup timeout to longer than the default 30 seconds. They just won't leave these things alone. Every major update they blow out the registry keys.

Media Player to replace Groove that replaced Media Player. Full circle, zero results. Well. From what I recall, Groove was designed mainly as a streaming app for Windows Phone, which proves, once again, that touch software is always, always inferior to classic desktop programs on the PC. No exceptions, it seems. In fact, if you read the Groove eol announcement, the whole what you can/cannot do with your music. Nothing beats simple silly MP3 on your local disk.

Depends on the size of your disk. I prefer FLAC, which can then be transcoded to just about any other format. That said I assume your point was to avoid any proprietary format from any of these vendors and to use something that doesn't lock you into a company or media player and if so, I agree.

I could never acclimate myself to Groove--even the name of the app turned me off. It was so NOT user-friendly and every time you thought you got the hang of the UI, you found out you didn't, the hard way. Terrible app.

Hopefully, this new WMP can run sandboxed as I stream some music tracks and buy off of Bandcamp.

No one can predict an outcome for you because there are too many variations in software, hardware and user habits. One common thread, however, involves certain Ryzen processors, most recently with the TPM firmware. If this is applicable to you, maybe it's something to mull over before you click the Install button.

I installed Windows 11 twice--the first time way back in June 2021 with a bootleg iso. Stable and snappy even back then, and currently running very well. I had to roll back to Windows 10 six months after the first installation due to unexpected and serious nvm-e issues. So, again, one can't make predictions for anyone else, only offer a personal experience in the here-and-now.
