    It looks interesting, but from what I've learned, it's probably not a good idea to mess around with this stuff, especially on laptops who need to stay cool. I tried a similar app on my Lenovo IdeaPad 3 laptop and I almost fried it because fans would eventually stay quite for too long.

    Apps like these are fine to use, as long as you don't configure them to allow the computer to get too hot. I used NoteBook FanControl on some HP laptops, because it would not take much CPU use for the fan to run fast enough to audible. I was able to reduce the fan usage, while not letting the CPU get too hot.

    With the ThinkPad I'm using right now, I'm not using any fan control software, as I rarely hear the fan, even when the laptop is under load.

    Yes and that's the problem, you must know what you're doing and I clearly wasn't. Those fans also don't bother me any longer, I can barely hear them on my IdeaPad 3. If you're really not into fans, your best bet is the MacBook Air.

    On my ThinkPad, I can't hear the fan running at least 99% of the time, so it's not an issue. I also have a fanless mini desktop PC.
