I don't know whether it's me but I've just noticed these Facebook embeds on this page. I don't recall seeing them before. DDG blocked this in Firefox. Maybe one of my extensions isn't working. Maybe the embeds have always been there and I haven't noticed them on this page.
Hmmm ... curiouser and curiouser ... On my M1 MBA Safari and Firefox show nothing. But Chrome and Bugvaldi show the embed.
Interesting, this could be relevant. I get this in Fx on my iMac. Although if I open the page there's no embed.
Troubleshoot mode in Fx (no extensions). Incognito mode in Chrome (no extensions). Safari Private Mode.
Hi, the most worrying aspect of that insecure web page, that it has 2 Amazon trackers, which would be better to block. If they are not blocked by the browser (in my case they are),they are probably **** blocked by the extended list of Kees1958. **** = Confirmed.
Just for grins, I opened scopeviews in Falkon, Qt5WebEngine v5.12.1.0. Without the Fanboy Social block list, the facbook and twti graphics are present as shown in your #1 image. I went ahead and opened the http page in my primary (hardened) Firefox profile and Ghostery IDs it as a twit button. There's the plain text link to the facebook, too, the graphic being squelched by Ghostery's facebook site analytics blocker. This looks to me to be the just plain old business as usual fun on teh webbuhnetz. As well, that site needs to get its act together and get with https.
I got that Facebook thing in Vivaldi on Windows. I then enabled the Anti-Facebook filter (under Annoyances) in uBlock Origin, refreshed and voila--gone. Guess I'll keep that one around; it's only 69 entries.
It's a mystery why some operating systems/browser combinations do/don't show the embeds though. I don't think the site is maintained much. Plus, if you're not logging in or sharing sensitive info, I'm not sure why https is that important.
Oh, nice find! I was going to have a look at uBO's lists. Thanks. I also checked Fanboy's Annoyance and the Twitter embed disappeared!
All gone now! Thanks plat1098, uBO and Fanboy. Of course, why the embeds suddenly appeared is still a mystery ...
Cool, glad it worked for you too, Daveski! Just speculating but maybe the web-master kind of let that one slip by via changing some things on the page. There's a monetary incentive to do that, I bet. But again, just idle speculation. Sometimes web-pages change on a dime--all sudden-like.
Thanks. I should imagine it's something like that. I just find it a bit weird that the individual browsers acted differently on different operating systems. Safari is the only one to not run uBO. All the others, regardless of the OS, have more or less the same extensions. Chrome's are synced. Way too complicated for me to figure.
Within the context of this discussion, it's not. But DoH will soon be default in mainstream consumer browsers where the unwashed masses will see some sort of ominous warning for the first time upon the default automatic update they just got... "It might be OK to continue. But if it's not OK, well, you're (censored)." Some one should do something about that.
