You mean under "Advanced preferences"? And set to False as opposed to delete it? And what kind of misbehavior?

    @Brummelchen

I have `fission.autostart` set to `true` in Release for quite some time now and no misbehaviour here.
Would you be able to give me an example of a misbehaving site?

I just look at my about:config (94.0.2), the setting fission.autostart is set to false by default.

    In 95.0 as well.
    (downloaded it from `archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/` yesterday)

Even in Nightly 97 it's set to `false`...

Strange. Set to 'true' on every instance here, including my wife's laptop and she would never have changed that setting. :doubt:

It's a gradual rollout. I have the Dutch (Linux) version. ;)

Yes, in the weeks after Firefox 94 release they were going to gradually roll it out to stable channel users. Note that Firefox 95 release notes now say it is enabled for everyone.

    open
Schmetterlinge in Brandenburg und Berlin - Arten & Verbreitung
    go to "Arten & Verbreitung"

get one "Art" with image, eg
    "Phibalapteryx virgata (HUFNAGEL, 1767) Streifenspanner"

click on "Artportrait" which scrolls down,
click the image, close the image with "x" (lower left)
firefox with fission will jump back to startpage

(turn off ublock/adblocker for that page)

this is what i read. i had fission also on, jumped back, even with a new profile, pity.
starting up with a session and this page will jump back to firefox startpage, so it jumps back to the very beginning of that tab, and that was the startpage.

this is only one example. i would bet its caused by script which try to close the popup but fission will fail that way, however. i know that fission is active by experiment or by purpose, its active in nightly by default, i haven't tested it yet that way.

so if you experience similar failures when closing popup it could be fission. maybe i had such issues but did not recognize it and made ublock responsible.

    RLbox, sure
can i then have flash back again, running in rlbox?

Indeed, I experienced the same, even in Nightly...
However this is the first time I see this issue.

Maybe you can report it on Bugzilla?

Before looking at about:config, first look at Firefox Settings, Home, Firefox Home Content, and see if Sponsored shortcuts, Pages Saved to Pocket, and Snippets are disabled.

If there's no Snippets box to un-check, that's it.
In that case, I'm afraid you'll need yet another about:config modification to stop that promo.

I'm not a Firefox user myself, but seems like this is RLBox thingy is a quite important new sandboxing measure that might eventually also end up in Chromium based browsers, which will make browsers even harder to hack. Here is some more info:
