i wont do that because of several (personal reasons). either user himself or nothing, but a HOSTS file for the main crap, by remote. firefox and chrome have powerful filters and block lists, not comparable with uBo.
too many not savvy users may get annoyed and disable or uninstall the ablocker because they cant get along with it. i know a lot of users which use uBo in simple mode "matrix!" "what?", "Picker" "yeah, ice picking" "wtf", i dont mention netlogger...
most people using another antivirus than defender are not aware, that such programs insert extensions in a firefox profile.

    trocker is that absolute obsolete.
    seriously?
if this would be for thunderbird, ok, but firefox? LOL

in common mailers there exist no feature to track mails if they are received or opened, and for webmailers i would leave service because thats fishy. Outlook can send an opening/read reply, but received is a server side feature. that was used ages ago in clients to avoid spam, sending a false reply that receiver dont exist - in that case its for sure it exists. server side failure messages look different.

if some wont get spam or any other attacks on his mail account - dont insert it or insert a fake.

the NL link is considered as spam as it has nothing to do with ublock. same for trocker.

What on earth are you talking about? These are examples of the things that I would like to block with uBlock.

You can hide that annoying video with:
    Code:
    stories.businessinsider.nl##.Theme-Section-HasOverlay.Theme-Section-Dark.Theme-Section-Layout--Full.DisplayContainerHeight--flex.DisplayContainerHeight--minHeight.DisplayContainerHeight.Theme-Section-Position-1.Theme-TitleSection.Theme-Section
But I couldn't find a network filter for it.
The page uses a ridiculous amount of CPU...

About blocking tracking pixels in web mail with uBO; has been asked on Reddit and according to @gorhill that was not possible.

    https://old.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrig...sr=on&include_over_18=on&sort=relevance&t=all

    https://old.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/comments/jebg1q/email_marketing_tracking_pixel_block_list/

    https://old.reddit.com/r/uBlockOrigin/comments/c0alfb/does_ublock_block_tracking_pixels_eg_in_gmail/

    [Edit]
    Found the video:
    Code:
    ||stories.businessinsider.nl/hoe-adyen-als-digital-native-zijn-klanten-helpt-bij-digitalisering-salesforce/assets/AvmfRmB5Mx/adyen.mp4
Of course that doesn't answer your question about autoloading all html5 video's.

    [Edit]
Maybe block all .mp4 on stories.businessinsider.nl with:
    Code:
    ||stories.businessinsider.nl/*.mp4

    All built-in filters +

    Easy Privacy
    Online Malicious URL Blocklist +

    custom filters.png

Also several under the "My filters" tab, most of which I borrowed from Kees1958 :)

    Hard mode blocking is used.

Are you making noop-rules from case to case or are they pre-configured?

Mostly case-to-case, and some apply globally, while others apply locally.

OK thanks, so blocking tracking pixels in emails isn't possible, a bit weird since Trocker does offer this feature. And to clarify, I know of certain extensions that try to block autoloading of HMTL5 video, but I just wondered if this could also be implemented into uBlock, so that you can block it per site, so not globally.

Welll, that @gorhill said that it isn't possible is not quite correct. @gorhill said:

Has anyone here have actually tested whether using too many rules / filters actually impact uBlock’s performance in any significant way?

Interestingly, most of the malware content links in the URLhaus database are HTTP.
A simple block is to set the browser to HTTPS-only mode, which unfortunately I know is more efficient in Firefox than in MS Edge*, for example.

Interestingly, those few HTTPS links are not blocked by Online Malicious URL Blocklist, browser anti-malware protection, many DNS with anti-malware functionality.

    Screen.png

The list is therefore useless, just as the one with the anti-phishing block is useless.
The anti-phishing protection of the browser in this case is certainly more efficient.

    * = There are no exceptions, the mode always switches to HTTPS often causes websites to be unreachable.

It should also be noted that downloading the reg file in MS Edge warns the user about the possible danger.
While at least with Firefox on a Linux OS there is no such warning.

The example link from the first screenshot (2021-10-31 06:59:06 UTC) is not blocked yet, because the list's last update was:
    [Edit]
This "cert.reg" is a modified version of the .reg file that can be downloaded here:
    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/5918-how-turn-off-microsoft-defender-antivirus-windows-10-a.html
Us Linux users can just safely open that with a text editor. ;)

When the list will be updated probably Google safe browsing,Quad9 DNS....etc.... will be updated as well.
What is the point of opening a reg file that is Windows malware in a Linux OS?
If I want to visualize it I can do it also with Windows changing its extension in txt,doc......
    ;)

I have safe browsing turned off in Firefox, but I do use Quad9.
    Curiosity. ;)
Other less savvy Windows users might click on it.

Yes, you had observed this before--thank you for the additional info. it's useless to have static entries with only a periodic update. All three are disabled on here anyway--using Firefox's inbuilt blocker instead.

I switched to NextDNS in Firefox without much performance impact. My browsing is pretty tame. :)

Are the Firefox inbuilt rules updated more often than these uBO lists?

With HTTP websites (which are the less important ones) the anti-malware list seems faster than Quad9 and Google Safe Browsing.

With HTTPS websites (which are the most important ones) the list update seems similar to Quad9, while Google Safe Browsing (adopted by Firefox) is always slower.

Microsoft Defender SmartScreen appears to have similar behaviour to Google Safe Browsing.

    P.S.

Obviously my test is very spoiled by the very few HTTPS malware content websites that are still online after a few days, often a few hours after discovery.

    __________________________________________________________

    Conclusion

The malware list also for this reason is useless.
Too many HTTP (online) links compared to HTTPS (online) links.
Better to adopt a protective DNS.
