Microsoft never explained why older processors can't carry out security functions. OK, they don't have a hardware module to do that but what's wrong with software emulation?

Sure its less than ideal but many of the PCs that have them are TPM 2.0 and secure boot compliant, which even Microsoft's own Health Check acknowledges.

LOL. I was mostly joking but I stand by my choice. I've had my share of AMD vs. Intel and ATi/AMD vs. NVIDIA machines and you will always have to compromise something with the choices you make.

Crazy. Micro as a tech conglomerate one might think, 'should' have had most improvement details long covered before official release. It's almost like they are adding improvements on-the-fly. Or else they prefer to do it this way then gauge the feedback and telemetry as they work up more additionals.

 

Good to know. I am not sure what happened with me. But last night I had an issue with a display driver that sent me into a series of reboots. Automatic repair showed up and I decided to let it do its thing. I did a "fresh install" from the cloud. Since then I have not had any problems. Also to boot, I gained a ton of free space back without doing an thing. This Windows 11 is weird stuff.

 

I'm still waiting to do an upgrade from Windows Update. In the past I've noticed less free space gain from a Windows Update upgrade compared to an ISO upgrade.

 

I agree with you and have seen the same thing in the past.

I would be annoyed as hell if I had serious performance problems on Win 11 with AMD processors. I think I will also stick with Intel, eventhough I keep reading that AMD CPU's are more speedy. I'm sure that Intel CPU's are less secure, but how easy is it to exploit this stuff, is another question.

BTW, I see someone has come up with a tweaking tool to remove certain Win 11 annoyances, see first link. And in the second link M$ explains why Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 are so super duper important to keep systems safe, so I guess we were all wrong when we complained about Win 11's strict hardware requirements.

I doubt any of it is easy to exploit in either case. If someone skilled enough is targeting you what you have won't stop them.

 

I remember tpm discussions back in 2004. It was nonsense then, it's nonsense today.

Just to see, I mean, if you don't require it otherwise, you can disable it while running Windows 11. I removed my Infineon v. 2.0 chip and there was an error message in Event Viewer, that's it. Don't know for more prolonged times keeping it disabled, what that would do. I'd imagine to look out when it's cumulative-update time.

That's the TPM module in my venerable Surface Pro 3 and it ticks all the compatibility check boxes minus the processor.
