glad to hear that things are going well with 11 for you. :thumb:
seems 11 is turning out to be much less problematic than we all anticipated.

Yeah, thanks. :) Hopefully it's similar for most everyone else.

Yeah no major show stoppers for me as of yet. Are you running 11 as well?

I'm still not liking the start menu. I'm trying to work with it but Start 11 may still be in my future. Also my screen brightness on my laptop keeps resetting to 20%. It's not terrible but slightly dimmer than I had it before. Disabling adaptive brightness does not change it. Ultimately I'm sure I can live with it but it annoys me that it seems to allow me no choice.

Try Classic/Open Shell. Its a free replacement for the start menu.

Do you use Night light in Settings app/Display? It seems to stay put day in, day out. I used to use f.lux but stopped a while ago in favor of Night light.

I do not. I suspect the largest part of the issue is that this laptop includes the Tobii eye tracking sensor and it dims the screen when you are not looking at it. When you look again it brightens it up. On Windows 10 it returns to the previously set brightness. On 11 it goes to 20% regardless of what it was before. Feature? Bug? I don't know at this point.

KB5006674 Cumulative Update installed. It seems to have set my Surface 3 Pro display up properly as I can see my dock icons now.

The security patch and bugs fixes addressed whatever was left unfinished with the official rollout of Windows 11 last week.

I got that two weeks in advance through the Beta Channel in September prior to Windows 11 debuting on October 5.

My updates came later and took roughly 30 minutes minus the restart reboot which was faster than the download and install through Windows Update.

Microsoft's dire fears about Windows 11 coming undone on PCs like mine have so far been unrealized.

No crashes, slowdowns or appreciable performance degradation. Thankfully, it withheld the stupid and counterproductive threat of not providing updates.

It was a senseless proposition to leave PCs unpatched and unprotected. My advice to Microsoft?

Windows 11 is as good as it is now and since it ain't broke, don't fix it. 'Nuff said.

What gets my goat is Microsoft never bothered to test Windows 11 on its own older Surface line devices! My Surface Pro 3 is completely compatible with Windows 11 except for the processor. What's wrong with it? This is what happens when you don't make sure about what Windows 11 actually can support.

Bear in mind the exclusion of processors isn't due to the hardware but is a purely artificial limitation created by their installer. As various workarounds confirm.

There are lots of PCs that do meet the Windows 11 minimum hard floor. The only reason they're ineligible is due to an arbitrary decision by Microsoft to rule them out.

This makes the hardware cut-off easier to understand, but not easier to accept.

My processor was compatible w/Windows 11 from the get-go. But my loyalties were firmly with the legions who was left out of the Microsoft upgrade "experience." I strongly hope these latest methods to bypass the processor requirements via the registry hold up under the cumulative updates now and later.

    Trooper,

I gained 1.5 GB of free space after the upgrade. After I cleaned up.
