Yep, clean install is always nice...

 

Yeah, I'm not sure how long I will go with 11 myself, but there is a fair chance I'll be back on 10 soon too.. we shall see...

 

I'm not planning to do a clean install. I'll clone my Win10 partition to the same drive and update the clone (using an ISO) to Win11. Then I'll be able to compare both OS performance on the same drive.

 

I always do a clan install on upgrades like this. Have been for many years.

 

OK, I will do a clean install of Win11 too. Then I'll have Win10, Win11 upgrade and Win11 clean on the same drive. Only one will win out, eventually.

 

No need. My old software runs fine! Whatever ran on Windows 10 should run on Windows 11. I didn't even need to disable my Kaspersky Free AV when I was upgrading. People before needed new software to run on a new version of Windows. Not this time around.

 

Really? That's the build I got a week ago from the beta channel. My Surface Pro 3 is 99% compatible with Windows 11. Its the same experience I would get on the new Surface Pro 8.

 

I think you're probably right.... 11 is basically 10 with a rearranged UI and a few other minor tweaks... should be fine...

 

Looking forward to hearing your verdict. As for me, the jury is still out.

Mrk is right people no longer rush out to buy new PCs just to get a new operating system.

What was Microsoft thinking? My decade old MacBook Pros with Intel -i5 and i7 core processors can run MacOS Catalina.

Windows 10 isn't even a decade old and already Microsoft has rung down the curtain. This doesn't sit well with users.

The planned obsolescence model is no longer a viable business strategy.

That will be switching to Linux for me once Win10 is EOL. From what I've been reading there is little reason to migrate to Win11, compatible machine or not.

 

You can also stay with W.10.
I with my Windows XP pc have been 7 years (until 2021) since the end of extended support with no security issues, no problems even with compatible softwares.

A question to you guys who are running W11 Pro. Is the functionality of the sandbox better, or still as flawed as on W10?

 

I like the Settings app. File Explorer sucks.

 

Microsoft has softened its stand on processors but it hasn't backed down on PCs needing to have TPM 2.0 and secure boot requirements for installing and running Windows 11. PCs without the latter will be considered being in an unsupported state and won't receive updates through Windows Update,

 

The Universal Windows Files app has one thing going for it over Windows Explorer: tabbed browsing.

That still hasn't been implemented in Windows.

 

People have been asking for it since the 90s. I assume they can't pull it off. The Windows 11 version reminds me of the Windows 3.1 version.

Well the percentage might be a bit higher with those TV retailers like HSN where they been bragging it up in promoting the new O/S on their line of new laptops. Saw it this week.

Can't say I agree with that. Though I don't like it, planned obsolescence is part of all or nearly all of MS's products, and it works for them. Like I said, I don't like it, but it's ubiquitous with their products and the evidence shows it being viable.

 

Exactly why some of us seen this coming way back on the run up after the nice long XP run. Sometime between XP and most definitely after the new release which was Windows 8, with both the 'store' and 'tile' making for something of bad taste for Windows PC user's is when plans went into motion that one day (they would wind so much control over user's PC), that all "my own" 8 units were & still are fully prepped to operate independently OFFLINE as technical, automated, either entertainment systems or standalone tech/business systems. Which would make full ONLINE transition to Linux much more easier to adapt.

Let's see how far they get continuously disappointing their once massive followers of their products then. At some point Mac and Linux will become a huge draw while Micro could very well go the way of the dinosaur with that business model.

 

At what point? Vista, 8, 8.1, 11? If Vista didn't make this happen nothing else is going to. Despite that I liked Vista more than what I have seen of 11, it's all about perception. This has not had nearly the negative advertising that Vista did. Most of the people I knew that went Mac in the Vista days have long since switched back because it wouldn't run most of the software they needed. Not trying to be argumentative, just realistic.
