ok, so i need help with list of exclusions for my backup plan. i use rescue media to create backups and i do cold backups. i'm creating a list of exclusions for use with imaging apps and i use multiple imaging apps incl. mac-ref and ati. what file types and folders can i add to my list other than temp files and folders without breaking windows? i want to make sure that my image is free from all clutters, unnecessary files and folders and traces of past activities.
i'm trying to create a list like the one below: *image taken from https://kb.acronis.com/system/files/content/2019/08/59686/59686_003.png
imdb, I tried "exclusions" a few times and it significantly increased backup and restore times. My approach is to delete the unwanted files before the backup is created. Running these scripts takes a few seconds... https://www.wilderssecurity.com/thr...art-menu-and-more.438389/page-23#post-3033784 Edit... The DISM script is only used after a Windows Update.
Was that with Acronis? Or something else? Or any product in general? I do not question that you are correct, but I never noticed that with Acronis when I used to use it. That of course doesn't mean it didn't happen.
hey, jack. fwiw, i tried it with and without exclusions with ati and i didn't notice a significant difference. i can say the amount of time it takes to back up and restore my rig w/o exclusions is the same as it does with exclusions.
xxJackxx, It was with IFW/IFL. In retrospect it wasn't a typical test. I had nothing in the C: drive that I wanted to exclude so I imaged a data drive and "excluded" several large partitions. I recall it doubled the backup/restore times.
Thanks for the clarification. Acronis is usually the fastest product when you do anything like exclusions or incrementals/differentials. That said I prefer something that can actually restore the image it made.
