Well, he has not replied to this thread even though he has been on the fora several times since you and i posted this. Some time ago i asked, 2 times, about another program of his, PrivateWin10, in another thread here, he did not respond to that either. That program has been buggy for a looong time and many had complained about it so he was and is most certainly aware about it. He has, in his sig, a link to it`s website, still, even though that program obviously is abandonware since he is not maintaining it. He has the possibilty to announce, for both programs on their sites, that they are not maintained, but does not. So it still looks like they are working and ok when you go to their respective sites.

In conclusion it is no risk in stating that this guy is not sincere with what he does. He is not failing to announce of technical reasons the maintenance of these programs, he just does not care anymore and in that way he is fooling people. He, as many others, where eager to start up, but he does not follow up with responsibility enough to just state that it is paused, or stopped indefinitily. There are lots of these people on the net and they are not thrustworthy.

He has done some programs and one thing one understands about them is that he is not the best coder, in fact, some things comes through as if done of a happy amateur that does not quite now what he is doing. That is the, sense, feeling, one gets about his work overall. Happy amateur. He is nowadays working on the program Sandboxie, and i would not trust that anymore as much as i did before just because of that.

These type of individuals one should not encourage and give attention, better stay away from and in that way shut them down.

I think you are being a bit harsh in your statements. True, he could say something. Right now he seems pretty involved doing Sandboxie, so I will give him the benefit of a doubt. We'll see as time goes on. Give him another year. :D

Harsh, i am not being harsh enough. This guys programs are causing damage to other peoples Pc`s because he has not got the sense of responsibility and decency to inform users on the program sites that the program are buggy and development has paused/stopped. That would not take more then 10 minutes of his time but save hours for many others when handling their pc`s.

One should be able to sue such developers. In real life, on could. That is the problem with the net, to many can get away with being irresponsible.

A year is not enough, he probably needs, like so many others, a lifetime to mature. This has been a problem since the beginning of the net, and it is grooving. It is fun to start something but to take it down, or following through responsibly all the way, nah. So there it sits with a lot of false and inaccurate data that can potentially cause damage. That is how kids with short attention span behaves.:)

@pb1 stop spreading unfounded accusations if you say "cause damage" than follow up with examples.

WuMgr still works fine for windows 7 and 8, on 10 its pretty pointless as MSFT mostly rolls out Cumulative Updates so you can't choose much anyways. And 11 is not even publically released only int he insider channel.

If you have followed the relese cycle of Priv10 you would notice that there were already times of a few months without a release after which they resumed, so no the project is not abandoned. Also its still in its alpha phase hence version numbers < 1 so some issues and a unfinished UI are to be expected.

No, they are not pointless, quite the contrary.
Some updates Ms enforce on you on W10 even though one has set it to not download and install them. Those "very important". It is not funny when Sledgehammer/WuMgr does not do it`s job and stop that from occuring and an inevitable restart is needed.

That is how needed these programs are on W10. And that is also the damage they cause when they do not function as intended. Especially when the updates are buggy and one has to handle the "mess" that arises.

I personaly had that experience not so long ago, others to. So it very much surprises me when you state that they are - "pretty pointless". How can you be, so clueless? How can you not even know the importance of your own programs?

Sledgehammer is not my tool only WuMgr is, and its Sledgehammer's job to enforce all that update mechanisms stay dormant not WuMgr's job.
WuMgr offers you to set a few things that on a windows which respects the settings would be effective, but mostly its purpose is to select updates and manage them, what in the age of only CU's is not much fun.
If you use a windows version that chooses to mess with you instead of respecting GPO's its on you.

If you have Windows update running amok on your PC despite the use of Sledgehammer than you should contact the Sledgehammer dev over at MDL.

I use WuMgr within Sledgehammer, but it may be Sledgehammer that is the problem. If so, my bad.

But is it not WuMgr that has the feature to check for, and download M.Defender definitions even though W.update is turned of?

Is it correct that if one uses WuMgr separatly it will update MD if one uses "create task"?
How often does it do that?
Any specific setting that is recommended in WuMgr to accomplish the above?

If you are not going to fix that it may be broken, is it correct of me to say that this program is abandoned?

Well is it broken? I don't use this script, I provided it on user request as a courtesy, if you are using it tell me if its broken than I'll remove the script.
If its not broken there is no action to be taken.

I'm not a large company with a QC department that continuously test everything against new windows releases. As a solo fighter I'm reliant on users to report if something got broken in use cases that I don't use personally.

So so summarize: you are absolutely wrong in any way possible. thank you

I have, since yesterday, the latest W10-64 home version, before that, the version before. And on that version the problem with Sledgehammer started after long usage without a problem. I then tried WuMgr separatly after uninstalling S-hammer, still a problem. So i recon it is WuMgr that is the problem since it was it that i used in Sledge. And it appeared on the pc without me doing any changes and probably after a Windows update.

So, well, that is how it is.
Yesterdays updates went fine when i did not use WuMgr so according to me, it is broken in some way. On W11 the problem with it is even worse.

Well so may be after so much rambling it would be time to actually write what the problem is?
As I said, stopping updates on non enterprise systems is not WuMgrs job.
So whats the problem? Defender no longer updating definitions?
    Or something else?

It does not work, period! It does not update anything because it does not work.
It starts looking like it works but after a few seconds one realizes that it probably does not, and when it has been standing still for a minute or so it quits with some sort of error message.

Try it on W11 and you will see.

BTW, I have used your tool in Windows 11 more than once since Windows 11 Dev came out, and it worked without any issue.

    Ok. Sounds god!

Personaly i have left this and the use of this program and Sledgehammer behind me and was only following this up in an effort in trying to force you to do the right thing. Take responsibility for your actions, all the way, as i mentioned before. You can`t just abandone a program without inform the community that you have obligations to by the release of it without informing them. Instead of that you are continuing to advertise about the program on your homesite as if it is maintained and ask for donations on the same site is a kind of fraud. Is it not?

It is interesting to see that you, responded immediately, when i showed anger in a thread about your conduct as a program constructor but not responded in, 6 months!, when i wanted one simple answer in a thread for another of your programs. A program, by the way, that you knew was buggy but you did not do anything about it for a long time. Even that program you wanted donations for on your site and did not post there that it was buggy as an information to potential users.

But there is a lot of this going around on the net, even the largest, or one of the largest, companies in the world behaves irresponsible towards customers. Microsoft.

Others are talking about having problems with Sledgehammer, that WuMgr is part of, in a thread at Malwaretips. Maybe you can get some clues there.

Good luck, you may need it.

I responded because a forum mod asked me to respond to your rambling.

Sledgehammer is Sledgehammer and I as only the WuMgr author have no obligations to it.
Its like you would be complaining to Microsoft because you Asus Mainboard does not support memory xyz,
only because the PC vendor put windows into the product you bought.

I just tested WuMgr on the latest windows 10 and it successfully installed a missing security update.

Also as it seams the tool still works for other users, see postings above.

If I had to guess, you have something broken with your windows 10 update mechanics hence WuMgr does not work for you.
Can you install updates through the regular windows update page in the settings app?

There is a reason why I did not added any more invasive means of disabling or otherwise messing with the windows update mechanism, despite user request.
Breaking parts of the system to disable WU has the potential to break something for good. And I wanted to avoid issues as it seams you now have.
Hence the need for other people to provide tools like Sledgehammer, for me I don't use it as my editions of windows respect all GPO's.

Sledgehammer has a very fitting name its a Sledgehammer to solve a particular issue and it does risky things iirc, so may break something for good.
I'll be not providing support for a tool, Sledgehammer, that is not mine.

If you have a problem with Sledgehammer, as it seams to be the case, please talk to its author pf100 over at MDL.

it is not my responsibility to support Sledgehammer, or fix what it may or may not have broken.
