Looks like since I have barely gotten much experience with 10 anyway, Win 11 will erase the 10 that's seen no more use than adding super third party security tweaks and the weekly updates while it's on.

Life just wouldn't be the same without a good Windows 8 system

Unless you're gaming really heavy games on ultra and/or doing serious video editing, your card is more than sufficient for 99% of all possible graphics-related tasks.

Reminds me of a couple of years ago the start menu wouldn't open on Windows 10 for most of a day because of something they did server side. I don't like that they can hose my machine remotely.

Pretty good point. Micro toying with uncertainties remotely can be as disruptive as a ransomware invasion in some respects. It's almost like they use competing departments and then a top chief says "release it" while another has reservations but can't or won't do diddly to prevent a foul up on their end.

I still suspect when they let all of those people go they started at the top to save the most money.

So tell me after all this time that Windows 10 is been pummeling it with TELEMETRY what they actually gained in system data transfer refinements and/or Quality Control. Often read it's 'performance' is improved and MadDog Micro Defender is a useful inbuilt addition. So it begs to question where do they go next? Windows 11 now obviously.

This advancing of the Windows series was as clear as the light of day to me long ago even when many bit on the lie there wouldn't be another. History plainly showed and still shows a O/S product as Windows will continue to progress this series on their timetable and user's/customers (I hate the word consumer) will need be follow suit at some point ahead.

Just got KB 5005642--a very fast and bork-free experience. Winver is now 22000.184. Must not have been too many changes.
Not much. if anything, to clean up either. This has been the case for the past few cumulatives but not complaining if it's normal.

Edit: actually, a very small observation: In task manager, idle cpu clock is around 1.30 GHz. Since this last update, the clock remains at the cpu base clock of 3.1 GHz for my i9. If I change to High Performance from Balanced in Control Panel/Power Options, it doesn't move to 4.8 GHz like it should either. Doesn't seem to be ominous or anything, but it's duly noted. Hope it goes back to normal someday.

Anyone else getting this reading in TM? Looked briefly online if there were similar issues w/fixes but didn't come across anything yet.

there's plenty of other applications for 8 gb vram besides games and video editing, with 30x series nvidia cut down on Vram size, on laptop I can't do some tasks due to 6Gb so 8GB would be a medicine: /, hopefully 40x series will add more vram at reasonable price
if you try to do something serious it will throw an error ant that's it, so 12 gb is minimum, ideally I want something like 16 GB, unfortunately market dictates that games only need 4-6 gb Vram so consumer cards are centered around that area and other specialistic cards are very expensive

they bought me with the design and I like eye candy stuff, but keeping a dual boot just in case with win 10, I also installed win11 due to new security measures but turns out I don't need them

Well, I went to Power Saving, in the Power Plans in order to restore the cpu clock speed to real time. Has anyone noticed that you can't uninstall Windows Updates anymore in later Windows 11 builds? Looking at Control Panel/Programs and Features. That stinks. For now, it's OK, I mean I opted into this when rejoining Insiders but still. :doubt:

Running sfc and dism now. Maybe this will help. Edit: dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth fixed it. Phew!:)

Can you name any other task that would require 8gb of video ram in use?

DISM is a seldom bothered with but I found as well very vital in-built Windows servicing program that actually is fantastic once you jot down all the necessary commands to run for various purposes. It restores if needed your system back to good in short order.

I just ran sfc /scannow and it found corrupt files and repaired them. I looked at the CBS log but don't know what it means.

It's probably the wrong thread for that but... :isay:

I ran SFC /SCANNOW on both of my Win 10 21H1 machines and it found and fixed corrupt files on both. I don't know what to think.

Occasionally here as well, not sure the cause, I am not concerned unless it can't fix them.

    Edit: I check regularly.

That permission twice nonsense is not a real problem. Ignore it. I saw it on two hosts that got 20h2 "upgrades". Modern software and all that.

This is truly ridiculous. On my Win 10 1909 system, parts of the Windows taskbar and most UWP apps also broke after some update, and strangely enough I couldn't even uninstall this update. So now I will have to perform a full PC reset. I'm not sure if O&O ShutUp 10 and the disabling of certain Windows services played a role, but this stuff shouldn't be this easy to break.

Isn't it on O&O sites that they are teamed with Micro?

Those lamenting that their machines are not up to spec, perhaps be relieved given reasons enumerated here:

    https://davescomputertips.com/insiders-say-no-to-windows-11/
    https://www.ghacks.net/2021/09/10/windows-11s-file-explorer-has-serious-usability-issues/

I doubt Win 11 will be ready for prime time on Oct 5th. Especially taskbar deprecations are unacceptable really.
Both my laptops are compatible, and I have Win 11 (now) beta on one test partition on one machine, but I hope there will be a way to (easily) postpone the upgrade until some basic elementary features and functions that I use are available.

Some of those issues I can live with. Some of them are show stoppers for me. Kind of crazy that being this close to release that these problems are yet to be addressed.
