Such this announcement sending damage control signal after the recent Kaseya strike right smack to their inbuilt security apparatus.
I've got a crazy idea, why doesn't M$ buy a third party AV company so that they can improve Win Defender even more? Or would the DOJ forbid such a move?
They did that years ago when they bought the technology of Reliable Antivirus/RAV (also known as Romanian Antivirus). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeCAD_Software https://gecad.com/company/rav-antivirus/
Good point, forgot about it. They also bought Giant Anti-Spyware. The problem is that Win Defender stayed crap for years. https://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Popup-Ad-Spyware-Blockers/GIANT-AntiSpyware.shtml
Shame Microsoft so far is refused to ramp up Windows Defender for Windows 7 and 8 since those user's really contributed to the huge massive popularity that Microsoft enjoys now more than any other versions IMO.
