The only time I had an issue with Eset product updates is when I was on the pre-release channel. In this instance it was because Eset forgot to push the update to the pre-release servers.

I have had instances where I was not notified that an Eset product was available. In those instances, I just forced an update via Eset GUI option.

I have had ESET for a good number of years and until now have never had a problem with updates. Had it not of been because of SUMO I wouldn't have been aware of an update. And, ESET has always been an exceptional product.

Well, thanks very much for the post . Looks like you are one of the few lucky ones.
Did the employee happen to mention when the are going to release the new update to the rest of us.
I do have one computer that is behaving fine. Why? Because I have 6 computers and I did not install the update in that computer.
One would think that if the company came up with an update they would test it before they release it to the public. Perhaps the rules have changed. :(
Once again- thanks for the report.

Just mouse click "Update" in Settings. Then mouse click on "Check for updates." If there is a product update available, it should start downloading it automatically.

Note: The latest product update is ver. 14.2.10. If you have that ver. installed, you have the latest ver..

If you don't have external drives, you won't see the problem.
If you do, you won't get this graphic.
It probably won't cause any serious problem but many of us think the update should be fixed. I have serious doubts.

I just tried it on my system and I do get this notification with latest version of ESET. Maybe it doesn't affect all systems?

Maybe they run a staged rollout and wait for feedback before they let it flow (100%)?

I think it only affects people with external drives but, then again, it might affect other items too.

ESET releases service updates in 3-4 month intervals. Currently it has not been decided if there will be one more v14.2 build or the next version will be v15 later this year.

The question is why uninstallation failed. Upgrade to newer versions is fully automatic unless you disable program updates in the advanced setup.
If there are no other users with program update issues, it's easier to uninstall the product (e.g. using the ESET Uninstall tool in safe mode) and install the latest version from scratch.

I went back to V13.2018.0 on my most used computer.
So nice to have ESET working again.

At ESET we care about our customers and value them. We also listen to them and a lot of improvements were done based on customers' feedback.
Each new build requires a lot of resources and man-days (coding, testing, pre-release communication with partners,etc.). If changes are made to drivers, they must be sent to Microsoft to get WHQL certification which takes additional time. Also each language version has to be tested on each of the supported systems (currently we have 41 language versions). In case of service builds QA tests are focused on the changes between the current and the previous build.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to 100% prevent bugs from occurring; even software vendors with far more employees than AV companies have to release service builds or updates addressing certain issues that were found and reported by users. I'd like to mention that our beta versions are praised by public testers for having no issues or bugs and we strive for releasing quality products to satisfy our users.

External drive, meaning drive connected using USB? I get that message when I connect my external HDD to my computer using USB.

I inserted a UDisk thumb drive and I received the Eset new device detected popup. UDisk's are theoretically the same as an external hard drive since they contain an internal IDE controller.

The question is if this affects all makes and models of external encased HDD's or just the ones you are using? Have you tried using different USB ports on your device?

Also is Win 10 Autoplay enabled on this device? If so, does Win 10 recognize the drive immediately? It usually triggers prior to Eset's detection of the drive.

I don't know about autoplay but these 6 computers all worked properly before the last update.
Going back to the prior version on 2 computers, they recognize the external drives properly.
Educate me on autplay and I'll check it out,
    Thanks

    Yes, it was enabled
I will assume that all 6 computers were enabled.
    That must be default.

I just noticed this in the newegg.com reviewer comments in regards to this Roswell HDD enclosure:
If the same holds true when the enclosure is initially connected to a USB port, there might be an issue with ver. 14.2.10 in regards to drive detection with a delayed startup.

    Here is one report.
The sample computer has two external disks.
One is USB 3 and the other is SATA.
The USB disk displays the graphic when the hard disk is ready to go
and the SATA drive does not. Before neither of them displayed the graphic.
SO- we are fixed 50%. Would be nice if they were both working properly.
Now I will try another computer after lunch.
