Doesn't Avira have a fairly robust Registry Monitor? Not that others don't already but specifically as regards Avira Free

 

Bummer. I may test it out anyway just to see what it looks like. After decades of messing with this stuff I wish there was an ideal product. Oh well.

 

Bitdefender has a really agressive whitelist and reputation cache now, after just some normal usage it will have a very low I/O and CPU usage except while updating (not a problem if you got a SSD).

Ps: Bitdefender web scanner is really fast too, one of the few solutions that can be combined with AdGuard for Windows without slowing down browsing speed too much.

Ps 2: Bitdefender isnt perfect, it has some annoying "features" like Auto Profiles, it is beyond stupid how it works.

 

I am using the Total Security version with some bloat disabled (setup in the signature).

 

I keep getting this error message when trying to install any BD package.

 

BitDefender works really great with SSDs, but not so much with HDDs. I fully recommend BitDefender (+ family of clones) to anyone with an SSD-based computer. That's not to say I don't recommend it for an HDD-based computer though.

 

VIPRE is the definition of a developer team putting in the absolute minimum in possibly one of the laziest efforts at making an anti-malware product.

eScan has a horrible interface, but at least its developer puts some of its own technology (+real drivers, real code, real tech) into their product....

 

No, actually, I like it a lot. I'd just prefer to use ONLY the AV, and use something like WFC for a firewall. What they bundle into Internet Security and Total Security is really over the top and unnecessary for my needs.

I've gone through a bunch of AVs over the past few months. Boredom, time to test out new things due to switching jobs, etc just made me want to tinker. Went from F-Secure beta, to Eset (a few things drove me up a wall), to Windows Defender, to AVG (never again), to Vipre (lol), and now BD. I always avoided BD due to the whole "bugdefender" reputation, but I really like it so far. Honestly if I ever ditch it, I'm just going with Defender and AndyFul's configurator.

 

Bitdefender has gone a long way. I wouldn't recommend it two years ago. As with Kaspersky you should do a full scan after install. It will help reduce resource usage quickly.

 

Understand. I had a problem last night installing it on my machine for some reason. Have not had time to troubleshoot it yet.

 

Even if kaspersky falls behind here. I test them regularly especially if i find some ransomware samples that they dont pick up (very new stuff from public sandboxes) and more often than nit system watcher does a great job there are only a couple occasions in the past (previous kav versions) where something goes past it.

Bitdefender while very simalar to kav can and does detect these kind of samples but they can't reverse the encrypted files. Same thing with avast. They detect it via behaviour but by then its too late...

Kaspersky tends to be superior in terms of new threat detection. KSN tends to be very fast to respond. Similar sort of behaviour with avast not seen much of it with BD though. Even when it comes to detecting unknown malware samples in general system watcher ia very efficient in reverting malware actions dont forget they also have a key combination set in system watcher (default is ctrl+alt+shift+f4) to shut down any screen locker type of applications as soon as its executed by the user which has come in handy on couple occasions.

 

Well, since Bitdefender requires me to set up an online account with them to test a trial it isn't gong to happen. Deal breaker.

It is also not easy to get a refund. I had to deal with 2Checkout and heard nothing for five days and I sent them another email asking where's my refund? They then said they forwarded my request to BD which is another layer of bs, and then I was sent an email that offered to extend another license I have with them if I don't ask for a refund. My reply was: please refund. A day later, they agreed.

 

It surprises me that almost no one ever mentions McAfee Internet Security. It does very well in testing and runs super light on both my computers one with Intel the Other with AMD Rizen. Im sure people are useing it but I just dont see much written about it.

 

I guess it's a matter of taste, McAfee Internet Security is the first thing that I uninstall on any PC, I just hate it.
