I'm disappointed Microsoft is not there. I just had to drop KIS so I was hoping to see MS in the results.
I'm looking for a suitable replacement and not feeling like that chart give me a lot of direction.

Part of me thinks it's cause having the bundled Microsoft AV consistently outperform the paid offering is affecting sales.

Kaspersky blocked 99.5 per cent of all malware samples with zero FPs. Good enough for me.:)

Vipre looked real enticing over the past few months, and then I tried out the trial. The UI looks like a 5th grader who failed graphic design made it. Completely umprofessional looking.

Glad Bitdefender did well. I installed it expecting the messy "BugDefender" we always talk about. It's been smooth as silk and light as can be for the past month I've used it.

I was wondering about Vipre. Sounds like you saved me the time of looking at it.

Without advocating a "conspiracy theory" regarding the absence of Microsoft, you can now buy most AVs for almost nothing ( I just got a Vipre license for 14.99 (3-devices). If this is not an indication of dwindling sales, then the laws of microeconomics have been negated. There is simply less demand for non-Microsoft AVs.

I have done my own testing of 11 AVs over the past few months, and WD ran and runs the best on four of my high-end machines. For me, if any of these other 11 have any detection advantages, they are very marginal.

Nope, good until November. Too many software conflicts. I liked it otherwise.

got it. maybe you're better off using msd to minimize the conflicts.

So far it has done that but the waiting while working with network shares is almost unbearable.

I'm curious if one of the AV's you tested was Emsisoft or Avast?

I agree and actually do not base a purchase decision on detection rates. They are all close enough these days. My decisions are based on:
    1. Product quality/reliability. If it crashes or is buggy or glitchy then it is no good.
    2. Overall slowdown. If it is too heavy then I do not want it. The amount of memory it uses does not factor into this. The amount of lag it introduces does.
    3. False positives. If they cause more problems than actual malware then there is no point.
    4. Price. I am willing to pay for a good product but if all other things are equal then the cheaper one wins.

What flavor of BD did you use? Light and smooth as silk has me interested.

I have Total Security in 8 machines ranging from a 2nd gen i3 with 4gb RAM and HDs to a 9th gen I7 with 16gb of Ram and SSDs. I have no performance impact in any of them

Currently on a 90 day trial with Total Security with a few things disabled, like the web scanning, anti tracker, password manager, etc. You know, the useless crap. This is on an OCed 8700k, with 16GB RAM and a 2TB NVME SSD. So it's not a slow machine by any means.

Originally I wanted to go with just the AV with and a UI for windows firewall, like WFC or Glasswire, but I snagged a license for Internet Security for 3 PCs/2 years, hoping to be able to downgrade. Support has been less than helpful, so I might sell my license on ebay once a deal for AV Plus goes on sale.

Bitdefender 2021 is the antivirus solution with least impact in my system, I cant notice any performance degradation, it runs really smooth in my machine.

I think you're all about to talk me into testing out a trial tomorrow to see how it looks these days. I haven't looked at BD in years as it used to be the heaviest of the heavy.

@Marcelo Good to know. I may to trial this out.
@entropism Sounds really good. So you want to sell it because you are not feeling it I guess?
@Nightwalker So you are just using the av itself?
@xxJackxx Yeah I forsee a trial in the near future. I remember BD being super heavy in years past and never tried it after that.

It was too heavy on my machines and I got a refund.
