According to the publishing history overview at Launchpad, Firefox 89 is only published for Ubuntu 21.10 Impish Indri, so far.
The other versions will follow in a while.

TBH it's fairly typically a couple of days behind now I come to think about it.

I'm running 20.04 LTS so I suppose I'll have to wait. Oddly, this is the first Firefox update in ages I'll probably not whinge about. Probably lol.

It's a matter of the used packaging source. If you had Firefox installed from mozilla directly - which can mean to have two installations and separated profiles you could have had it yesterday ;)

You could already have it on Mint also. :D I'll take Mint over Ubuntu though I run both in VMs for testing.

I've used Ubuntu for years, I don't see the need to change. Plus, it doesn't look so shite these days. It's one of the few things in cyberspace that actually has improved. Mostly.

did you set about:config > "beacon.enabled" to false? it is known to force a page reload because of that. one of those fake privacy settings which cause firefox to misbehave.

Nope. I just double-checked and it is set to 'True'. Might be extension related.

It isn't doing it at the moment so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Edit: Also, there's been an update to HMP.A too, so...

I think the tabs are a bit tall, but I'm OK with it overall.

    I've also enabled the about:config 'browser.compactmode.show'.

    Okay thanks for this.

I just posted a straightforward observation and supported it with facts. That's all.

Yes agreed, it could very well be QUIC.

Oh, they will eventually. I'm sure of it. At least the exaggerated runbar highlighting has gone. Which is something.

It's the first thing I noticed. The second thing I noticed was to remove the 'Pocket' icon lol.

I find FF Proton a huge improvement visually over Quantum. The tabs are rounded enough not to be jarring, and the aforementioned URL bar no longer jumps out annoyingly. The gray URL bar, however, complicates my css to change the URL bar color to indicate security level because it makes the colors look muddy. In about:config, one can set "security.insecure_connection_text.enabled" to true, but it's still difficult for me to readily see when a site is insecure. This is one area where Edge has the advantage. (I've added the extension IndicateTLS – Get this Extension for Firefox (en-US) but the indicator is only a tiny square.)

On Kubuntu, Firefox 89 was offered and installed today.
With the useless ((K)ubuntu?) Title Bar above the tabs disabled and with default theme the tabs are very dark, just as with earlier versions (as said, this may be a bug/oversight in the implementation in Kubuntu). So, also in 89, I use the light theme, which looks fine.

Not so great are the bulky tabs in Firefox 89, even with compact density.
I'll have to get used to that.

Also, I see a Bookmark icon (star) in the address bar that wasn't there before. I don't want it, but there doesn't seem to be an option to disable it, it isn't shown when the Customize panel is opened.
Does anyone know of a simple option to disable that Bookmark icon in the address bar?
