Absolutely, and Kyle appreciates this! (#4140).
I was just voicing my :thumb: for his work (unique program and ever-presence here) lest he believes this is not appreciated!

    Thanks :)

One of the concern today with SUMo is that, in order to get more reliable results, it would need a larger base of users.... any suggestion you'd see to have more people using SUMo (even exclusively on the Free version) ?

The problem might be that you have to many power users?

For example for 1Password I often see a beta version being listed as a regular update because several of your users run that beta…

Make a one-time use trial or one day trial or something to show em how easily Sumo updates EVERYTHING, and then when they wanna update again and then u strike em in the back by making em pay to automatically update!

It doesn't matter how good your program is (well it does), without marketting you will never succeed! All these crap avs and crap io bit updaters and what not that have so many users, why? CUZ MARKETTING! They got popular and then it snowballed and yeah u know the rest

With macrium reflect: I think they still provide updates for version 7 but since they released version 8 sumo labes it as a major update and doesn't show the new version numbers for 7 anymore.
Is there any plan to report beta versions within the sumo app (without the windows mail stuff)?

[SUMo] Error Report for OpenXML/ODF Translator Command Line Tool by OpenXML/ODF Translator Team v 0.0.704.0 - SUMo reports Update available (1.0.0.0)

Both 32-bit and 64-bit still reported as needing an update. Product Versions on these files (OdfConverter.exe) are correct whereas the File Version was not updated, but should still be okay instead of being flagged as update needed.

Did you get a chance to look at this?.

If it can't be handled normally, then how about filtering it out as a sub-product of Winmerge 2011 Winmerge 2011 (64-bits) ? There's also a portable version the SUMo knows about WinMerge 2011 Portable

    Good point, i'll check.
Meanwhile, if it's a subproduct, i'd suggest to have it added to your "ignore" list

Why the ignore list? I thought if a filter is in place for a sub-product of a main component, it won't be flagged and only the main component will be flagged when it gets an update. I only use the ignore list to suppress notifications for old versions that I want to keep using. I won't see updates for those.

I use the skip forever list to receive notifications when that skipped version gets an update. I.e. I am using the last v5 for Virtual Box, but want to know when there's a new update for V6 which I keep skipping each time a new update occurs until I'm ready to use it. The rest I report as an error or beta. Is that logic incorrect?

Ignore list : removed from list and will not re-appear even if new scan
Delete : removed from list and will re-appear if new scan
Skip : Kept in left but notification "muted" for a specific release and a specific period of time

What you stated is basically what I said about skip and ignore. I don't understand your reply.

Maybe what you are saying is that the user and not SUMo should ignore flagged files that are sub-products of certain main components such as Winmerge 2011. That way SUMo doesn't have to be bothered. If resolving these kinds of issues calls for manual intervention on your part, I can understand why ignore is being recommended. I guess it's down to only reporting betas now and ignoring or skipping the rest :(

My whole point about all of this is about the precedence of file version versus product version, which IMO is not being handled correctly by SUMo.

Not exactly working that way.... the "sub component filter" just takes out of the list (auto-ignore) subcomponent in order to keep main programe being listed only.
    I hope it clarifies :)

You're welcome. As usual, if you see any regression of weird stuff related to the listed changes, please let me know :)
