It requires Windows Firewall to be running. GW is a front end that creates rules for Windows Firewall, in addition to all of the enhanced GW alerting and reporting features.

Explain why people need to purchase a subscription plan to view a comprehensive "History" which is stored on their Personal Computer?

    • You can now see services and process IDs related to your apps on GlassWire's Firewall.
    • Added a warning for our firewall "block all" mode, so a user who is using our remote monitoring feature will know they are about to block their own connection.

    • Fixed a bug where the mini viewer had an alert bubble that could overlap its header.
    • Fixed a crash (reported in our forum) that could be caused by running an app from a network storage device.
    • Fixed a bug that could cause an app started on a network share to be unblockable.
    • Fixed a crash that could be caused by VirusTotal scanning when an app is on a network share.
    • Fixed an issue that causes all apps to be blocked on the firewall if "ask to connect" is enabled, and if the GlassWire database is moved from one PC to another.

Thanks! The changes to "Things" sounds interesting, as it was in need of improvement! But I've not experienced any of the other bugs or performance issues mentioned, so I think I will check in at their forum for a few days before upgrading.

Me too. Read about this update at their forum a couple of weeks ago, been waiting on its release.

In the 5-6 years I've been running GW on four systems, pretty much rock solid, does everything as advertised. I just installed .318 over .304 on my Win10 Pro test system without issue.

Can you perhaps tell me what you like about GlassWire so much, what do you use it for? I wanted to try it for some time now, but everytime I end up not doing so because I can't see any advantage over SpyShelter and TinyWall.

It does everything that I need a software firewall to do. I use it mostly for monitoring network activity, and not so much for blocking outgoing stuff, although it is quite capable as far as applications go. Still no IP based filtering.

It has a plethora of monitoring features for the network activity on my PC. For example, I am alerted every time a new program tried to access the network. I am alerted every time a network connected program has a version change (update). I have it set set to scan all network connected programs at VirusTotal, and the latest score is always presented in my firewall view. And there is more... I can also see a view of all traffic listed by App, Traffic type, or Publisher.

I rely on my router to be the hardware firewall cop to keep the bad guys out of my network.

OK I see, then I probably don't need it, and I don't want to see alerts about this stuff. TinyWall simply autoblocks outgoing connections and SpyShelter Firewall has a nice and simple network monitor, probably not as pretty as GlassWire but good enough. I also read that GlassWire uses quite a lot of RAM.

I hear you. I like the interface much better that the native Windows Firewall GUI. Trying to block connections with that is cumbersome. So I set GlassWire to "Ask to connect" mode, and all apps gets blocked outgoing, unless I explicitly allow an app to connect. Then it remembers that setting so I do not get asked again.

But I actually never noticed the 50MB of memory that GlassWire service is using here as I have 16GB of RAM. But I don't use torrents or anything of that sort, which can load up concurrent connections. Typically just run a browser with a bunch of open tabs, email, and maybe another app or two.

I keep the GlassWire GUI closed unless I need to check something, as that GUI process adds to the memory and CPU use, which is still negligible in my case. I can recall earlier versions where the fancy real-time graph had a big CPU hit, but it looks like they have optimized it.

Surely, it is incumbent on Microsoft to fix their database. This detection is annoying, even though I have known about it for all these years. Just saying.

Yes correct, it's ridiculous that M$ never made a good Win Firewall management tool, that's why I use WFC. Too bad that GlassWire doesn't have an auto-block mode and yes with 16GB RAM you don't have to worry about resource usage. But based on the features I can see why people might like GlassWire, I guess the WIFI monitoring features are kinda interesting.
