I have two Chromebooks and never had this issue. If you have extensions it could be an extension problem/conflict. Try disabling all extensions and then enabling them individually.

What do you see when the video stops? Is it just frozen? Is it buffering--a circle spinning with a black backgrond?

note sure it will help you but i had an issue with any google drive download where it would tart and then give a network interupted error and it drove me nuts for ages
eventually found something about the quic protocol, (which was enabled in my chrome, i didnt knowingly enable it, and apparently by default it should be disabled)
After i disabled it all google drive downloads completed fine.... (again not sure its related to your youtube thing, but maybe worth a go)

i tried several browsers and when playing a youtube video after 30 ssecond or so it stops like when you press the pause. so i click on play again and it starts playing and then it stops then I haave to repeat this.. for etensions I have malwarebyte, aha, ublock origin and click and clean and they are not the cause. I tried using firefox and opera with no extensions and plain and the same thing.

When you state 'Chrome OS' are you using a virtual version running on Linux? Or do you just mean you are using the Chrome browser on Linux? If you are running Mint it may be an issue with that. I have no problems running YT videos on Ubuntu Focal Fossa in Firefox, Vivaldi or Chrome.

actualy vivaldi is fine and it seems only those browsers that relate to chrome haver this issue on ever streaming video site. not only youtube but other sites too. video plays for 30 econd and then stops oe pauses. then when pressed play it starts playing and then stops 30 second later and so on.

Ironically... here is a YouTube video complaining about the same/similar problem...

Youtube video STOPS playing after aprox 30 sec

Not a lot of useful replies, though. However, the comments about disabling hardware acceleration within Chrome and/or trying to update your display / graphics card drivers might be helpful.

sorry for late reply. I did a fresh install and now all is well and youtube videos are working fine. must have been some issue with chrome OS that a clean format install solved it. Thanks for all your help.
