About two weeks ago, EFF announced adding DuckDuckGo Smarter Encryption update channel, and phases for HTTPS Everywhere's rulesets, and later the web extension's EoL.
Anticipating HTTPS Everywhere's EoL, later, I switched to Firefox' HTTPS-Only Mode, last week. Firefox' HTTPS-Only Mode has no whitelist option like HTTPS Everywhere, but to me it works just fine. It felt a little hard to let go of HTTPS Everywhere, but it's OK.

I am not sure if this is an issue or not in Firefox 88 but is bothering me. I updated to Firefox 88 two days ago. Yesterday I noticed that when I right click the Forward or Back buttons, I don't get the tooltip or drop down that shows the history of all the links that I can open in each button (arrow) if I continue to click it. Is this function still a working function in Firefox? I just noticed this not working as I expected. So, I don't know how long this has been like this or if I am expecting something the browser doesn't do or do anymore. I don't use this arrows often but when I wanted to see the history in one of the buttons yesterday, I expected to see some sort of history of what the button contains and got nothing.

According to what the arrow buttons say when you hover the browser over them something is supposed to be shown when they are right clicked or pulled but I am getting nothing. I tested with new profiles, not changing anything or adding anything and still got nothing. If someone has any clues or know something about this that I don't, please let me know, I ll appreciated it.

If I right-click or pull down as described in tooltip, I get my history shown.

Thanks Minimalist. Perhaps reinstalling Firefox will fix this for me. Testing with new profiles did nothing. But you confirming that the function still works gives me a clue of what can be causing my issue as it reminds me of something. Perhaps it is the Variable I have in use to disable Multiprocess. There are other functions in Firefox that are broken because of using a System variable to disable Multiprocess so I wouldn't be surprised if this function is now broken after updating to 88 or perhaps 87 (I skipped 87 totally). I am going to log out and test, and come back in a little while to confirm if the variable is the cause of the problem, very likely it is.

Edit: Confirmed. Using the System variable to disable Multiprocess breaks the function. Thanks again, Minimalist.

What exactly is your method to disable Multiprocess?

You create a System variable with this name and value (the value changes as Firefox gets updated):

    Name: MOZ_FORCE_DISABLE_E10S
    Value: 88.0

It looks like this when you are done.

Another thing that I am finding worst with Firefox 88 than before is that some pictures in some websites are not displaying perfectly well without enabling Hardware acceleration. I don't like HA acceleration so I refuse to enable it and rather take the hit than use it but it is annoying.

A lot of what I read previously indicated the value should be set to 1 which did not work when I tried it back then. I use the ESR version which is at 78.10. So are you saying to use 78.10 as the value?

Edit: 78.10 seems to be the solution for my current version.

The value used to be 1 for all versions of Firefox. Mozilla in their wisdom to make things more difficult to users decided to change that sometime ago. So now, every time you update Firefox, you need to change the value of the System variable to whatever number the new version of Firefox is. So for example, the value now is 88 but when I update Firefox to 89, I will need to go the variable and edit the value from 88 to 89.

The name of the value is the same as always, just use the number of the ESR version you are using and try it. It should work for you.

Adric, so you get an idea of the sort of things that can be broken in Firefox because of using the System variable. Till today, I have noticed 3 functions broken in my Firefox. 1. The start page is empty. Regardless of how I set it up, is empty, blank. 2. The Options button in NoScript doesn't do anything. In order words, I can't open NoScript settings from the NoScript Menu, to open NoScript Options I have to do it from about:addons, and 3. The latest broken function. The Forward and Back buttons don't display history. From my point of view, the gain out of not using Multiprocess is worth a lot more than what I lose from not having this functions work as they are supposed to.

Well, I thought everything was okay, but Firefox crashes when using an additional tab (CTRL+T) and the selecting a URL. Looks like Mozilla doesn't want this to work and probably doesn't even test it either.

That is for sure. They want everyone's browser to be one and the same, and to give up using the browser the way each person wants it. They expect most people will give up setting up their browser the way they want, that is why we get hit by roadblock after roadblock. They expect the annoyances and problems they throw at us will make us give in to their wishes and likes. Not me.

FYI. You can also use a keyboard shortcut to view browsing history:

Alt key + Right Arrow to go forward | Alt key + Left Arrow to go backwards

Thanks JR. I dont think that would work for me (I just tried it). The Alt key + Arrow just moves a page back or forward, but dont display history. I use Private browsing all the time, so history is not saved. But the function to see history all the way to the end in the Forward and Back arrow buttons was handy as you could quickly get to a page that was pretty far back.
