BTW, can uBlock correctly block Facebook from tracking you on for example Google? A friend told me that he was looking for some info about airco's on Google and all of a sudden he got to see ads about airco's on Facebook. He does have third party cookies enabled because disabling this might cause problems on certain sites. And now that I think about it, how does FB track you on Google, because I don't see any third party cookies on google.com, so is Google perhaps sharing search results with other sites?

I don't see any Facebook stuff in the logger on Google search.
But if you click on a result, the page you go to might have a Facebook tracking pixel.

I thought most Privacy lists already block these.
And if he uses Firefox, he can also block cross-site tracking cookies (that includes social-media cookies):

As far as I know, Google doesn't do that.

So uBlock can't block Facebook tracking, or what? Because if FB can't track you via third party cookies, then they can only track you via FB tracking pixels on those AC sites? And perhaps my friend should also enable Vivaldi's ad and tracking blocker.

It's a big mistake to have third-party cookies enabled.
It may create an exception for some websites to malfunction.

Kees1958's list targets precisely what seems to be your friend's problem:

    https://github.com/Kees1958/W3C_annual_most_used_survey_blocklist

Interestingly, Opc9 has published on MT the trackers blocked by DuckDuckGo's Privacy Essentials extension:

its a bigger one not to filter it :D
AFAIK FB has its own tracking system away from others. block FB sites and you are done.
and again same question over and over again: ublock can block cookies if it can catch its scripts, but its not designed to do so. therefore i still use umatrix with 1st-party allowed and other in general blocked. the rest is handled with a cookie blocker/cleaner (cookie autodelete, cookiebor...) firefox will block by privacy setting and delete not allowed cookies.

    Not quite accurate.
    View function:

    "cookie-remover.js"

    https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/wiki/Resources-Library#cookie-removerjs-

    :)

P.S. However in the answer to

    @Rasheed187

I was referring to the control of the cookies of the browser, as I imagine he has done himself.

uBO includes a Facebook-specific anti-tracking filter under Annoyances. It will break some embedded Facebook images on news sites, but I consider it a fair tradeoff.

    P.S.
I inserted the rule for Google Translate in UBO Legacy.
So a double rules considering the browser's cookies blocker.
It seems to decrease the latency I was complaining about before entering characters from the keyboard.

    My UBO Legacy is 1.16.4.28.
    I used this rule:

    Code:
    translate.google.it##+js(cookie-remover, ref_cookie)
    It works.

    P.S.

I hope you don't mind if I put the text of your e-mail in this forum, it could be interesting for other members as well.

    from the link
you need more than one rule to cover subdomain and domain (if not www.)

minor nifty - its not user friendly at all, you need to know how to insert it manually into "My rules". i prefer a one-click solution like uMatrix which covers both with a nice dialog. but you need to know that umatrix dont block set the cookie, but it prevents reading out. a different way as ublock or firefox do. another cookie manager extends this behavior - delete on leaving domain, or keep (special) cookies.

    Thanks!

I have uMatrix and a cookie manager, but as I understand, with this uBO function you can block one specific cookie.
That cannot be done with the cookie manager I use (Cookie Quick Manager) as far as i can see.

Yes, third party cookies is not a good idea, but some sites won't function when it's disabled. And I don't understand what Kees1958's list exactly does?

Thanks, didn't even notice this filterlist, will try it. But perhaps you really need a browser like Brave and Firefox who seem to be covering more tracking techniques. It's clear to me that Facebook is using sneaky methods, otherwise uBlock would have blocked it. I sometimes also think that Ghostery is needed, it works just fine together with uBlock.

I have a problem: I cannot visit translate.google.com it redirects me to https://consent.google.com/m?continue=https://translate.google.com/
    Code:
! Hide Google Search consent popup
    google.*##.widget-consent-fullscreen.widget-consent
    google.*##div[jsname][jsaction^="dg_close"]
    google.*##html:style(overflow: visible !important;)
    google.*##+js(aeld, DOMContentLoaded, CONSENT)
    google.*###gt-promo-lr
    google.*##div[class^="gb_"][data-cbh="consent.google.com"]
    google.*##.tlid-notification-container

    and this:
    Code:
www.google.*##body.QVCmK:style(position: static !important; overflow-y: visible !important;)
    www.google.*##html.QVCmK:style(overflow-y: visible !important;)
    www.google.*###lb > div[id^="_"] > div[class*=" "]:not([id]):empty:matches-css(opacity: 0.7)
    www.google.*###lb > div[id^="_"] > div[class*=" "]:not([id]):has( > span > div[role="dialog"] > #cnsw > iframe[src*="://consent.google.com"])
Also I oberved that if I try to go to a localized google, I get the localized consent. Any solutions?

I think that issue has been discussed here before.
The filters for the pop-up don't work any more.
The redirect can be dealt with by denying consent.google.com to write cookies in your browser.

I blocked consent through firefox and still I cannot make it work. I do not seem to have a problem with youtube with the filters I use.

And if you disable these particular filters temporarily (put an exclamation mark in front of them)?

    Thanks!

After permitting the use of cookies for these domains again, this seems to work now for the redirects as well.

ofc, you need to allow cookies, no matter which extension used. For me i use CookieBro or Cookie Autodelete (different profiles) to have unwanted deleted by conditions.

I am not very experienced in using UBlock Origin - so please forgive me possible mistakes in expressions etc.

Using it with Firefox (my standard browser) has become quite a pain during the last time (perhaps the last one or two months or so): I have the impression that it occurs on more websites than before that I have to modify the rules in uBlock Origin (permitting contents from additional URLs) in order to be able to use the site "normally".

Today I discovered by chance that - at least in one case - it has to do only with Firefox whereas in Google Chrome all works smoothly. Here the specific example:

    It is https://www.discogs.com/ (a music-database)

    1.
    a) using Chrome:
If I type the name of an artist (e.g. "Sinatra") a dropdown-list opens automatically (with appropriate entries in the database):

    b) using Firefox:
If I type the name nothing happens (until I change the rules in uBlock Origin - see below):

    c) So looks uBlock origin:

    aa) with Chrome:

    bb) with Firefox:

    2. Going to the entry "Frank Sinatra" (https://www.discogs.com/artist/52833-Frank-Sinatra):

    a) using Chrome:
As you can see, there are thumbnails for the albums left of their titles.

    b) using Firefox:

    The thumbnails are missing:

    3. What I have to do that dropdownlist respectively thumbnails work in Firefox too:

    I have to permit cloudflare.net:

That's an URL that does not even exist when using Chrome.

Is there something I can do that Firefox (+ UBlock Origin) works in the same way as Chrome (+ UBlock Origin)?

Of course it's no big deal to permit cloudflare.net for discogs.com. But as mentioned in the beginning, it seems to me that similar obstacles (not necessarily with cloudflare.net) recently arise on many other websites too (I still did not compare with Google Chrome).

    I use:
    Windows 10 Home 20H2 (64 bit) / UBlock Origin 1.34.0 / Firefox 87.0 / Google Chrome (portable) 89.0.4389.82

@Peter 123, just out of curiosity, are both browsers using the same blocklists? I don't mean uBo, I mean the browsers themselves. That could explain the differences you see.
