The Firefox title bar may be a Ubuntu/ Kubuntu thing. If I recall correctly, I didn't need to disable any Firefox title bar on Windows 7.
And the dark tabs after disabling the Firefox title bar may be a Kubuntu theme thing, as I don't see it on your Ubuntu screenshot.

Actually I should have figured the title bar on Ubuntu earlier. I think this may be a Unix thing as it is on macOS as well:

Above with title bar removed. Below with (pointless) title bar added:

I still appreciate you bringing this to my attention on Ubuntu though. :thumb::)

    You're most welcome, Daveski17. :thumb:
Coming from Windows 7, I noticed the Firefox title bar difference, and I found the option to disable that bar, quickly. I think I found all Firefox customize and preference settings that are useful to me. However, I use only a few additional about:config settings, I cannot rule out that I missed one or two gems.

My excuse is that I went straight from 16.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS and skipped 18.04. Things have definitely changed in Gnome lol! Overall Firefox runs well in Ubuntu and it is the default browser. I'm still a bit disenchanted with Mozilla's overall attitude with its own userbase though. It's not a good portent.

Well this is an odd little observation. Does anyone here dress up Firefox with a theme? So, I've had the same cute theme since almost the start but never linked it to one of the several issues I've been having with this browser.

There would be these dead spots where my clicks weren't registering the first time--like a bookmark under the double arrow for the bookmark toolbar or even on the toolbar itself. So, on a whim, I changed to another theme to hopefully curb my urge to uninstall Firefox and voila--no dead spots (yet). Anyone else? I mean, it's a good thing for a change.

Default, four Firefox themes are available: Default, Light, Dark and Alpenglow. Other themes are available via Get More Themes.
On Kubuntu, I use the Firefox Light theme (to fix dark tabs issue with title bar disabled). I don't think the Light theme gives me any problems.
Could it be that the four default themes are OK, but other themes not necessarily so?
    What theme did you use?

I find that if the theme is old and/or unsupported there can be rendering (and other) problems.

Stupendous Man, this seems a plausible explanation from Daveski. This wasn't the tried-and-true Light, Dark, etc but those you get in the Firefox add-ons Store. The one I was having trouble with was not even two years old, though. But, it is what it is. The image is of the one that's currently working with Firefox like it should.

I'll look for the more modern ones from now one because this was getting somewhat vexing, you know?

I first discovered that old themes often wouldn't render correctly when I used to run SeaMonkey a few years ago, which was a precursor to Firefox (Luke; I am your father ... ). Then I noticed certain themes would act weird with some versions of Firefox.

At one time browsers were not updated/upgraded every three days or so, like now. So a theme would work for years before it borked.

I am a bit surprised that the vastly simplified themes Firefox now uses could elicit the same sort of behaviour though.

Right, I'm not willing to blame that 100% either. But, when something isn't working in one scenario and changing that scenario results in the desired outcome, it's tempting to say it's a direct cause-and-effect. So I ain't looking a gift horse in the mouth.

There were a few things w/Firefox that irked me but it turns out a lot was admittedly due to some mis-configurations on here. Was getting some webpages loading terribly slowly (4-5 sec) with these little "waiting for gstatic.com" and others in the lower left corner and it seems the DNS setup in AdGuard was conflicting with that of Firefox. So I ticked the circle in AdGuard to use the system DNS and The Fox is very fast w/loading pages like gmail and Malwaretips again. Let's hope it lasts this time-- at least until the next "issue."

Yes, I agree one has to be circumspect in considering cause and effect scenarios. One of the reasons I ditched Windows for Unix is that it simplified things for me. Especially not running an AV.

drag space is futile with proton, currently its also futile because you have space left and right from tabs to drag. in case you let show the menu bar you definitely have drag space. if you use some custom styles with userChrome you probably know the answer how to insert some pixels above tab bar.

in windows my drag space is limited to the upper right below windows buttons (min/max/close), i have maximized my tab width.

Erggg, dead spots (mouse clicks not recognized) came back. Looked online for this issue and utlimately had little choice but to reset Firefox. Seems to have done the trick. Don't know if Sandboxie contrib. to the problem, let's hope not. Reset only took a few sec. and then another little bit to reinstall my ext. Bookmarks were re-imported, very nice. :)

So you were totally correct, Daveski17, in being doubtful about any theme being a part of the dead spot issue. It was weird, though, the problem did improve when changing it, albeit temporarily.

Wow Firefox is just getting butchered. Is Pale Moon or some other Firefox knock off any better and more importantly kept up to date with the Mozilla builds?

Pale Moon was good when it first launched then when they decided they wanna sway away from Firefox and have their own code (Gecko), it broke many things, lots of extensions don't work properly and numerous sites don't work. For example I use Zen Desk for work for our ticketing system. If I would login with Pale Moon, I would login successfully but then it just displays a blank page. I opened a thread on their forum but the developers don't give a crap really. It's like, use it as is or leave.

Now I use Google Chrome for personal use and Vivaldi for work. Vivaldi also has a sync feature, all extensions from Chrome work and it is the fastest browser I have ever tried to date it's insane how snappy and instant webpages load win Vivaldi.

I think this is again a result of the telemetry, i dont care. If so, e very minority group has used the drag space, and as i wrote there is currently space to drag. but this is far away from your pointless "butchered".

You can be a Firefox fanboi all you want, but they keep taking things away from the users. To me that is butchered and not pointless. Just because you don't agree with me there is zero reason for you to reply to my post. Don't like it, move along.

I completely agree! I am tired of features being stripped away. That's why I use Waterfox; because they allow tabs on the bottom still. Firefox is slowly but surely trying to make everyone conform to a generic UI and bland feature set, hoping no one notices or complains along the way.

Yes, but we've noticed and complained though. Maybe one day Mozilla will listen to what its user base wants. The more they carry on like this the more users will jump ship eventually.

The problem about waterfox is that it is stuck either on firefox 56 or on current 78esr, when esr is moving to 91esr in jan'2022 then waterfox is getting all the changes between 78 and 91 at once. i dont judge people on using firefox esr or waterfox based on esr, but you better be prepared for a lot of changes which the majority gets by each major updates. or you get stuck on an outdated and in special vulnerable browser. the problem for waterfox and similar is that it cannot add code or features which have been deleted in the original at all.

    Waterfox based on 78esr

i only can tell you what will happen. you can keep it up with it or use an old product.

for me having an eye on my personal security i use a current product. and i am not responsible for the results of mozillas telemetry. at least this is neither nor a place to respond about results. if you want to have impact on its decision you are advised to speak up here
    https://qsurvey.mozilla.com/s3/Give-feedback-landing-page
or contribute work as a developer
    https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Developer_guide

listen - if you disable telemetry/feedback you are out of that game. but what i read about people disabling telemetry they dont have any impact on the stats, it does not matter. if mozilla has removed the drag space based on its stats of the feedback/telemetry a not small amount of users did not use it. pity but true.

its a matter of being concerned but denying facts is not clever, you would call people liars. in case you have doubt on its truth then its probably better to change to another product and never return.

What else - i can tell you that Mozilla and Apple (Safari) wont follow Google concerning FLoC.
