    I don't know if they're trying but their marketing department is doing a pretty good job of it.

    Windows 10 + MS Defender is now the most popular operating system in the world, around 1 billion devices (1,000,000,000), some people may not like it but they are a microscopic minority.

    IMO Windows Defender is a superb antivirus. It is Windows OS that is the problem. If Windows were as secure as Linux (and it SHOULD be) then Windows Defender and other AVs would have much less malware to contend with.

    I feel it is ironical that Windows Defender was created by the very same outfit that made it necessary even to have a Windows Defender. I do hope you get my point.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    As to all the +1 posters -- (a) do you really think that Windows OS is equally as secure as Linux & Chrome OS? OR (b) do you think that it was impossible for Microsoft to build an OS with greater intrinsic security than Windows? OR (c) what DO you think about Windows INTRINSIC security, vis a vis Chrome OS, Linux, Mac?
    By the way, Windows' popularity is not much of a justification for saying it is security-effective. ~ OT Remarks Removed ~ In USA, Norton is more popular than BitDefender but is it better than BitDefender? Hmmm....?
    Further, the main reason for Windows popularity is the well-deserved popularity of the PC. For the PC, Windows has been the only show in town. No longer the case -- watch & see what happens in the next few years as Chrome OS & Linux continue to grow.
    @bellgamin,
    That’s OK, like we say, to each is own. But I think we should stop this discussion as this thread is about Norton-very shady billing practices...:)
    Speaking of Norton, I hear they released a new version. Wonders never cease.
    What constitutes a new version? Looks like they are still on version 22, for several years now. Can't find any info on anything newer. If there is something I want to see what they're doing.
    Version numbers are arbitrary. There have been many changes since the first v22.x and even a few improvements.
    True to a point but they have stuck with the horrible white and yellow UI. It hurts my eyes to look at it. They had some nice dark ones in the past. They picked the wrong one to stick with.
    Want to trial Norton?
    #1097
    #1098
    You can't even download their (7 day) trial now without giving your card details.
    That's more insulting than no trial at all.
    I've been using Norton Internet Security, (now Norton Lifelock) since either the original, or second version. That is, until now...finally have a Windows 10 computer, and Norton is not installed on it, even though my subscription hasn't expired. I think I'm done.
    I was given a key for Norton Utilities Premium and it wouldn't activate. Customer Support told me it won't activate unless I enable Automatic Renewal.
    I no longer have NUP installed on my machines.
    Yep, and their marketing department is pushing them further in that direction.
    It was suggested to me to enter the key here:
    https://my.norton.com/home/setup
    Entered the key and after a fresh download NUP activated finally.
    I don't know if entering NS / N360 keys there will get around having to enter card details but worth a shot.
    I have auto-renewal enabled for Norton Utilities. When I go to my Norton account and click on "Cancel subscription renewal," nothing happens. There is a feedback option on the website. I gave a 0-star rating due to my experience and stated the reason. After submitting feedback, I was not able to close the feedback window without refreshing the webpage.
