Firefox's massive overhaul moves to beta

I know it was always slower man but this is just painful. I use Chrome for personal stuff and Firefox for Work, our online chat system / CRM system and it's killing me.

I have just downloaded Firefox ESR Portable v78 lemme see if that's any better

 

Weird, and I have a 600 MBPS down / 200 MBPS up connection. Just tried ESR. I would say its 15% better but man this is not how Firefox used to be. I am starting to wonder if uBlock Origin could be the culprit, these are my filters:

 

You may want to try turning off "Enable DNS over HTTPS" (Network settings) to see if it makes a difference. I believe it is enabled by default.

 

Just create new Firefox profile and see if it is faster.

 

Don't forget to try in a brand new VM

this is the new network privacy, to disable. not sure about i will try it in my other profile.

If you experience issues with uBo - check settings and clean up your personal filters. I would say i had similar on Android and when cleaned up my own filters to a minimum uBo reacted faster.

That's disabled by default, never touched it.

 

Yet another reason I stopped using Firefox. Imho, the great days of Firefox are over.

 

It is not needed to that way, but it would not hurt either. Anyway I suspect that you are just joking, but I don't know why.
I am using Firefox 85.0.2 via Ethernet cable and everything is as fast as Chromium-based browsers, but in the past I have experienced some performance drops that were resolved after creating a new profile, importing bookmarks and installing the same webextensions.

 

Not here - and i wrote about current 85.0.2 like other people here. That behavior is the new network privacy for separating several cache and page memories. Since i don't participate to "Normandy" and don't receive quick patches for Firefox - it could be reversed, but Sören Hentzschel never wrote about - so it should be true by default.

For Firefox ESR that switch is default false, but ESR don't include that network privacy features, at least it's not usable for ESR and thus not for you.

 

I'm not finding Firefox the be slower to load sites. I do find it slower to launch but once it is running I have no issues.

 

I wish I could say the same. Maybe there are tweaks to make it faster. I am also using a 4K monitor so maybe it just can't handle it.

 

I've never found the display to be a limiting factor. A slow internet connection or high resource usage are usually the first things to check for. Possibly a slow disk. I find Windows 10 to be mostly unusable without a SSD.

 

Hmm then I am not sure. I have a decent machine, good internet speed, and use SSD's.

If there are any tweaks to speed up things. Especially page scrolling.

 

I haven't found a good alternative to FF yet, so I still use said browser.

 

i'm not quite sure i'm following you here. what makes you think it makes any difference using the beta? but anyhoo, you might try disabling hw acceleration and reducing the content process limit if you have a low-end sys.

 

It happens in regular Firefox as well.
