OK then probably this explains why you don't have any problems. The problem that I'm complaining about is explained in the link. It's the first time that I'm using a 1920x1080 screen and I'm shocked that it would cause these type of problems. Also, most pictures and images on the web are of low resolution, so it doesn't make any sense to offer such high screen resolutions. Yes, pictures taken with smartphones have got high resolutions, but you can always resize those pics with image-viewers. https://blogs.windows.com/windowsde...ktop-applications-windows-10-creators-update/
BTW, I'm starting to think there might be something wrong with my system. Can you perhaps check if apps like Wise Folder Hider and Ultimate Windows Tweaker look blurry when you install them on the Lenovo IdeaPad 3? This is with a scale of 150%. I'm starting to wonder if I perhaps need to update any drivers related to the GPU. https://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-folder-hider-free.html https://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/Ultimate-Windows-Tweaker.shtml
OK thanks, did you already check it out? To clarify, I had to manually change DPI setting from lots of apps to make them look crisp. But I'm surprised that even newer apps sometimes look blurry. And I've found this article about laptop screen resolution and I have to disagree with the writer. I rather have a resolution of 1366x768, because 1920x1080 screens don't make any sense. https://www.laptopmag.com/articles/businesses-shouldnt-buy-1366-laptops
Yes, I did, and even found the problem with the latest version of LO. So it's definitely not you. Mrk
To clarify, so on your AMD based Lenovo IdeaPad 3 you also see that certain apps look blurry? I've done some counting and I had to manually change DPI settings for about 25 of my 50 most used apps. So I wonder why M$ didn't make this process easier in Win 10, they could have simply made a list of installed apps and then you should be able to change DPI settings for apps that look blurry on full HD monitors, all at once. Also, I noticed that Wise Folder Hider will look tiny and Ultimate Windows Tweaker will keep looking blurry even when you change DPI settings, is this correct? Same goes for apps like MSI AfterBurner and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit. On thing is for sure, when I buy a new desktop I will also buy an old skool "low resolution" monitor to avoid these problems. BTW, what do you mean with LO?
It's got absolutely nothing to do with the brand of laptop or CPU. Regardless of the hardware, Windows doesn't handle scaling well. It's not an issue for a lot of people, because like me, they don't use scaling. But, other than switching to a Mac (not something I recommend), I don't think there's any solution for your issue other than using a monitor with a lower resolution than your laptop has, or switching to a laptop with a lower resolution display.
Yes, I meant Libreoffice. And yes, I noticed a bunch of applications have blurry interfaces. That's the modern world for you. The only desktop that handles scaling well is Plasma. Mrk
OK cool, I think I now finally get it. I thought that there was perhaps something wrong with my GPU, because this issue is so weird. And I have strangely enough never seen anyone complaining about this issue on WSF. So perhaps in the future I will indeed buy a MacBook because frankly I think it's unacceptable. It's crazy, why on earth would you offer 1920x1080 monitors, because with a scale of 150% you are basically simulating a 1366x768 screen anyway. Of course, currently I have configured all of my favorite apps and all is fine, but everytime I install a new app I may face this issue again, this is insane. And why on earth did M$ make it this hard to change DPI settings in Win 10, it's way too many clicks. Now that I think about it, why not let ALL apps handle DPI scaling themselves, because then you wouldn't even have this issue with most apps, or am I missing something? I'm talking about the "Override high DPI scaling behavior" setting, see link. https://www.howtogeek.com/175664/ho...ll-on-high-dpi-displays-and-fix-blurry-fonts/
Some people like high resolution displays and don't use scaling. I've never used scaling. You can quickly change the DPI settings by opening the Start Menu and typing big. You will see a link to "Make everything bigger" in System Settings.
No you are misunderstanding, I'm talking about the setting mentioned in the first link. In order to fix the problem I will need to enable this setting per app, there is no global option in Win 8 and Win 10, strangely enough. So are those M$ guys complete idiots or am I missing something? There is also some tool that tries to fix it, but it didn't do anything for me. Perhaps I should try it again, see second link. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...tions-do/e4afd178-50d7-463b-acd4-dbcb0a00ab21 http://windows10-dpi-fix.xpexplorer.com
I see what you mean. I suggest that you email the author of XPExplorer, and maybe he will be able to help you. Info@XPExplorer.com
Perhaps I will do so, but from what I understood, it doesn't work on every system, it depends on the configuration. I doubt that this problem is fixable. So I will definitely not buy a Win 10 laptop or "all in one" desktop in the future. From what I understood, MacBooks have got even higher resolutions and scale the screen to 200% without any problems. BTW, something else, I didn't even know that the VAIO brand still existed, the laptops look pretty cool. https://us.vaio.com
BTW, I wonder if the Intel Iris Xe GPU is better than Intel UHD? I noticed that some laptops are using it. Also, about the Win 10 DPI scaling problem, I noticed that Huawei laptops have got resolutions of 3000x2000, I wonder what's the use of it. You will probably need to zoom the screen to 300% to make it look good, so I wonder how Win 10 will deal with this. I still haven't managed to test other laptops and desktops to see how they handle DPI scaling because of the COVID lockdown, all electronic stores are still closed. https://www.coolblue.nl/en/product/863237/huawei-matebook-x-pro-2020-53010vny.html
To answer my own question, seems like Intel Iris Xe is a big improvement over Intel UHD graphics, if I knew about this I would have perhaps bought a different laptop. On the other hand, I didn't really buy my laptop to play videogames. But from what I understood even with Intel UHD you should be able to run certain videogames, still need to test it. BTW, I was looking at a couple of HP laptops in the electronic store and I believe they do have a better screens than Lenovo laptops. https://www.pcmag.com/news/intels-iris-xe-graphics-preview-is-real-gaming-power-in-reach-for-thin
BTW, you never told me if you could play games like Asphalt 9 on your IdeaPad 3 machine? I couldn't download it via the Windows Store, I get some error and after installing updates, the Win Store doesn't launch at all anymore. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/asphalt-9-legends/9nzqpt0mwtd0?activetab=pivot:overviewtab
OK cool, perhaps if you have the time you can download Asphalt 9 via the Windows Store. On my machine the Windows Store doesn't work so I couldn't test it. And I was too lazy to install Steam, I freaking hate gaming platforms! But I did find that the GeForce MX130 is slightly faster than the Radeon Vega 8, see pic. The new Intel Iris Plus also looks pretty good. BTW, Lenovo really still gives you most bang for the buck. The newest Lenovo IdeaPad 5 only costs 630 euro at the moment, and you get quite a lot, too bad that this deal wasn't around when I bought my laptop months ago! Because 8GB RAM is sometimes barely enough with resource hungry browsers like Vivaldi and I didn't even know that integrated GPU's also use RAM. https://www.lenovo.com/nl/nl/laptop...ad-5-14ARE05/p/88IPS501392?IPromoID=LEN506671 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/asphalt-9-legends/9nzqpt0mwtd0?activetab=pivot:overviewtab
BTW, a small correction about the IdeaPad 3 that I bought, turns out that's it the Intel UHD 620 GPU plus the Nvidia GeForce MX330, seems like the webshop made a mistake, according to them this model should have had the Nvidia GeForce MX130, so I actually got a slightly better card. But I did notice that when I use the GeForce with Vivaldi then my fans will run even more, so it's not worth it. I guess it only makes sense to run video games with the GeForce, for all other things the Intel UHD GPU should be enough.
Since, I have a Surface Book 1, this is my dream next laptop.... "16gb ram laptop surface book 512gb ssd + Must have Windows 10 Pro" ....Will most likely be expensive.
