Used to use IObit but really went off it when problems arose uninstalling both AOMEI Backupper Pro & EaseUS ToDo Backup as IObit uninstaller also crippled Windows recovery environment (cleared reagentc info). It was only good fortune that highlighted this while I still had good backups to easily rectify! After restoring partition from a previous backup and using the programs own uninstallers everything was fine. Restored again and tried IObit again and same issue occurred so IObit was definitely the culprit. Back to Revo for me for now.

Glad you got it sorted out successfully. Can you report this to IObit support to let them resolve the issue? Thanks!

So, continuing here. First, there are barely any uninstallers tested (only 9?). Second, these are the free versions. Which are known for not having the full functionality. In Revo specifically, now it's been a long time since I haven't used the pro version, but if I remember correctly, in the free version you cannot use Moderate or Advanced scan, only Safe, which means way less leftovers. But In my entire time using revo, I've always used advanced, and I've never ever ever had a problem with that or an issue that resulted due to deletion. Now of course, it's not just revo, I'm sure there are other uninstallers too that don't provide full scanning with the free version. That is why this test is not that good.

Also, for most people, the most important thing of an uninstaller is, well, HOW MUCH IT UNINSTALLS. And all we get is a vague "9/10".

No, you get all scan modes in the free version.
HiBit and Revo usually find the most leftovers.

IObit finds more than Revo as far as my experience is concerned and as usually pro versions are more thorough than free ones.

If you test the current versions of both, you'll most likely find that Revo will detect more leftovers. For a while, IObit was fairly comparable to Revo, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. When compared with HiBit, HiBit usually finds significantly more leftovers than IObit does.

Also, it's worth nothing that while the Pro version of IObit has more features, it won't find more leftovers than the free version does.

OK, my comparison is a bit old so it looks like Revo has improved since then.

EDIT: How does Revo and HiBit cope with reboots during uninstall?

Both the Pro version of Revo and HiBit continue where they left off after rebooting. The free version of Revo does not have this feature yet.
Even so, you may want to try HiBit. One nice feature it has, is that it automatically checks for updates as soon as it is launched. If there's a newer version, it shows what has changed and gives you the option to update. If you click on the download button, it downloads, updates and then relaunches HiBit. It even does this for the portable version. It is regularly updated, unlike Geek which has not been updated since September 2019.

If you ever experience any issues with it, @HiBitSoftware is now a member, so you can message him here. He has been very quick to release new versions with bug fixes and features I suggest, when I've messaged him at MalwareTips.

I can also vouch for HiBit. The only thing: the exe is not signed (the developer explains it's not cost-effective for him and he cannot accept donations due to his country's restrictions, it seems).so SmartScreen can and does complain about it. I run it without hesititations, it's the only third party software of this type I use.

Oh, thanks roger_m, for announcing the developer is now at Wilders. :)

Actually, I always disable auto-updating, I hate it. And Geek Uninstaller is really all I need, I seriously don't understand why you would need other fancy features. I see that the makers of Geek even offer a pro version named Uninstall Tool. I guess the Install Tracker can be useful, but don't really need it.

I have a license for the PRO/Portable version of Uninstall Tool but I think it's a dead project. They haven't updated it in a year

Well, as long as it does the job right? Newer isn't always better.

I tried HiBit and liked it's going a little more deeper under the hood. But it took way too much time scanning during clean up on my Win 8.1. I had to CANCEL it several times after several tries. It may do better on Windows 10.

For the time being i'm staying with RevoUninstaller that doesn't choke or stall on brushing away leftovers.
