I've never been offered an update or received a message from CCleaner. What am I missing?

    @Osaban

I only us the portable version, loads in 12 seconds on my super fast laptop. I only have Malwarebytes on my system installed.

Spartan, I believe you, as mentioned maybe you are blocking the outbound connection with your firewall, if not I really don't know why would that happen. I've used it for a long time, and lately only the portable version and never had delays opening it up, but I don't block it with my firewall. My only criticism is about updates notifications, I've unchecked them in 'options', but they still notify me when a new version is available...

Brian, would you say BleachBit is more reliable and thorough than CCleaner?

With the blocking rules inserted in the Hosts file there is no delay.

LOL, I thought that it perhaps was because it was running sandboxed, and I didn't want to install this junk on my real machine to test it any further.

Wow, this sounds very weird, why would it take so long to load without a network connection? Old versions load quite fast.

    Osaban,

They remove slightly different files but it's only in the order of a few MB. I only use them to increase the amount of free space in the operating system partition. This makes backup image creation faster and the images smaller. I don't believe they make any difference to operating system performance. I've never seen a difference.

Thanks, the reason I'm still using CCleaner it is its safety record, through the years I've never experienced any changes to the OS after using it. I've tried others and they were reporting GBs of differences which might be unsafe to perform...

I just installed the regular "free version," it loaded virtually instantly. I don't run stuff sandboxed anymore, though, just scan any downloaded .exe w/several on-demands.

Got a toaster notification just now that Smart Clean monitoring is active :cautious:, after dodging an opt-in to CCleaner browser on the installation screen (b/c CCleaner works best with it). Since it only found 158 MB of stuff after all that, this puppy is outta here.

Edit: Oops, reinstalled it then blocked the updater and .exe in firewall to see what the delay is. Yes, on here: 11 seconds.

It seems to be CCleaner installed or portable if you block its internet connection a delay occurs.

I don't use any version of CCleaner for several years, IMDb--just was reading parts of this thread and decided to d/l and install to check it out. Should have read further on, the key was the "network" part.

By the way, I tried RWipe and Clean as you had recommended in another thread. If it's a one-time free use for comparison's sake, it blows CCleaner free away! Actually, no comparison at all. But, ultimately there doesn't seem to be a strictly free version, right? It seems a little too elaborate for a regular user, to tell you the truth.

    i see.

glad you liked it. actually when the trial period is over, it turns into a "limited" free version but it's pretty sufficient for a "regular user".
see this post and this post for more details.

Wow what has been done to ccleaner.

I see all versions before 5.46 on the net got taken down, also if security updates are downloaded for win10 then old versions get blacklisted pretending to be a program compatibility block (it isnt as still happens when service is disabled).

Wise disk cleaner is too much of a all in one for me, but cleanmgr+ looks absolutely perfect, a very simple temp files cleaner. So will be using that from now on.

I have the old version of CCleaner Portable if you need it, the version before it turned into crap. I still use it though because it's the best. Wise Disk Cleaner I hate that there is no one click button to clean, you have to scan first then see the results, then clean. I sent a suggestion to change that but they don't give a crap about their users. Also CCleaner has a built in Windows Store apps uninstaller so that's one less tool I need in my arsenal. Wise Disk Cleaner doesn't have that.

Yeah feel free to give it me, but I dont think I will be able to run it, I had an old binary from my win 8 install and windows is blocking it.

    Thank you.
