Uninstalled CCleaner due to lost trust. Alternatives?

Are there any CCleaner alternatives that handle Brave and Vivaldi browsers by chance?

 

PrivaZer cleans Brave. Don't know about Vivaldi though.

 

r-wipe & clean cleans both brave & vivaldi along with all chromium and fox based browsers. it is the most comprehensive cleaner there is.

I just hate that almost all cleaners are bloated nowadays, I just want a simple cleaner without any uninstaller or registry cleaning options. Sort of like Disk Cleaner from back in the days. I don't know if you guys remember it.

well, you want it, you got it. you've just described r-wipe & clean. a pure system cleaner with no uninstaller nor reg cleaner.

Have a look at Wise Disk Cleaner and KCleaner.

 

Privacy Eraser cleans both. PE most resembles CCleaner but without all that mess.

thats a bit (or a lot) overkill dont u think

i never once used this other than for cookies and site data

 

it's all up to users what to clear and what not to clear. r-wipe & clean gives it all to you, it's your call.

 

I for one can recommend Privacy Eraser.

yeah, it's all about to find a good balance ... clean less and be on the safe side or clean more and be on the wrong side ... my approach is somewhere in the middle ... clean a bit more but don't get over the edge

I checked it out with the help of Sandboxie, but I'm not willing to pay for a cleaner and it's a bit too much for me, it should be more simple.

Wise Disk Cleaner has a nice looking GUI and keeps it simple. But can we trust tools from Wise? Wise Folder Hider also looks interesting, have you tried it? And KCleaner is no option because it looks blurry on a 1920x1080 screen with a 150% scale.

It has the same problem as KCleaner, no option for me.

 

The last time that I tried KCleaner (admittedly, it was a while ago), it didn't give me the choice of looking at the details and then picking & choosing what I wanted to clean and what I didn't want to clean. That was a definite no-go for me. I'm going to try Privacy Eraser portable.

 

I just downloaded and opened that without cleaning anything yet and I like the GUI. I may keep it or install their free version.

Please let us know how it behaves on your machine.

I just got a pop up in the bottom right of screen saying that it can monitor free space or something. I don't want it constantly running in the background.

I went into Tools and found it was scheduled to start with Windows so I disabled that too.

Actually you can disable that in Settings > General.

 

Does the installed free version show ads, or must it also be reined in by a firewall?

 

I've installed Privacy Eraser free and am so far pretty happy with it. One thing though, under Windows > Registry Cleaner I put a check mark into Obsolete Software. After a scan it found stuff but nowhere could I see what that stuff was before allowing PE to remove it.

I'm not a fan of registry cleaners anyway, but not showing what is about to be removed is a definite no-no for me.

Otherwise I think I'll keep PE.

 

They are trustworthy. I haven't tried Wise Folder Hider, as I have no use for such a tool. Wise Disk Cleaner has the option to schedule it to run automatically, e.g. once a week.

Yes, that's the only downside. Anyway there is a registry backup of all cleaned sessions, if needed. However it's fair to say that I have enabled all options in the registry cleaner since I started to using it and I have never had a single issue. PE is very safe for any cleaning. That's my experience at least.

 

Yes, but that's like shutting the gate after the horse has already bolted. Image backup aside, how would one repair a machine after PE removed a critical registry key?

Even basic information about what it found in browsers would be much more helpful.

I cannot disagree with that. However, after more than 3 (trouble free) years of using PE, I don't care. Of course Macrium and Veeam are always on patrol.

I was a fan, but lately it seems to wipe my pinned tabs and unhide the bookmarks toolbar in Firefox, so wary of it now.
Haven't tried if unticking their Firefox cache setting would fix it, but that defeats one purpose.

 

If you contact their support and let them know, they will be able to fix the issue.
