... the situation is IMO quite 'risky': AFAIK windows is frequently performing HDD/SSD checks using the chkdsk command in the background. So its only a matter of time until windows will 'automatically' trash your drives.... :D ;)

I've checked the update logs for this supposed fix but don't see anything from MS, even after I changed my connection to unmetered. Manually checking for updates yielded nothing. I won't be purposely running any more chkdsk's for the foreseeable future

Chkdsk is only runs automatically if Windows thinks there is a need to run it. An example of this is, if Windows did not shutdown properly, it may run the next time you boot your computer.

Quoting from post #6555: "it’s finally getting fixed in the next cumulative update, which is expected to arrive in February or March."

One of those annoyances that for me, never rose to the level of complaining publicly about it in a forum. I just simply gave up on Edge. That's one reason why it's not my default browser atm. Maybe next February or March 2021, I'll revisit this. For now, Opera is more than capable.

Yeah, I noticed that also, that it did take a few more seconds than usual but went thru. Winver 19042.746. Update cleanup was mainly the Delivery Optimization, it seems, at half a GB. Anyone else w/ the same?

I'm running Insider build in the Beta channel but this seems to be currently merged w/Release. Hopefully we get our new strictly Insider build soon.

Thanks for the update page, anon.

The Cumulative Update has failed twice on my laptop and the Windows Update Troubleshooter failed also.

    That machine may be ill.

No problem on my Desktop PC.

After exiting WVSX and trying Windows Update again the update succeeded. Coincidence? Possibly.

Or maybe not. I encountered the same problem a few months ago with Comodo Firewall and Kaspersky Security Cloud Free and it took me some time to configure the modules properly to avoid conflicts and to allow the installations of Windows Updates. Time will tell for you. If this happens again then you should report the issue to WiseVector devs.

Yes, it was longer than usual, but no issues, I hardly had any leftover (about 90 MB). One of the reasons for taking longer on my machine was the updating of MS Office 2013 which continued after restarting the machine.

No issues with the update and WiseVector here Krusty. But that doesn't mean it couldn't happen on your machine.

Thanks stapp. This machine has had a few weird issues lately. I booted up the other day, got to my normal login screen, entered my password and was presented with a screen that looked like I'd just installed Windows. Even after restoring an image from days before and trying various fixes (SFC /SCANNOW plus others), I seen the same. Long story short I eventually booted back into a working Windows.

This machine still may be ill.

It was one more "double install" (KB4598242 & Servicing stack update), so that was the reason for the delay, imo.
