Windows 10 Announced - Released 29-Jul-2015

I feel exactly the same. I hope that they keep desktop version alive.

 

Article is about Windows built-in mail&calendar clients, so it probably doesn't affect Office.
Based on description they probably are going to use Electron for this Outlook One app. Electron has a built-in chromium browser, so developer can write Javascript almost like for web app and still create exe. Of course this duplicates RAM and disk usage for every installed Electron-based program, but this was always a problem with Windows, so they will probably ignore that.

I would probably go with terrified. But there is a good solution, simply disable Windows Update LOL. I have to say that the more I work with it, the more happy I am with Win 10, except for a couple of annoyances. Windows Explorer really should be improved it has got some annoying bugs. And for some reason the Win Task Manager refuses to open in a maximized window. I can't understand how M$ can miss these bugs while spending millions or perhaps even more on R&D.

 

No problems with the Windows Task Manager, which can be opened in a maximised window here.

 

What the hell, very weird will do some research. I use AutoSizer but it can't force it to open maximized.

To maintain the state of the art, change is usually the result of research and development which is of paramount importance in computer technology. I am aware that some users had problems with updates and upgrades, but it is inevitable with the most popular OS in the world. I personally have been using Win 10 home since 2015 and never ever had one single issue with updates, although I image my system everyday and especially before a Windows update. With Windows 10 Pro you can delay updates for up to a year, and Win 10 home is now I believe 1 month, although I have never tried to do it...

 

Same here. I've been using Win 10 since the day it was first released. It's the most stable OS I have ever used, no issues whatsoever.

Are you sure it's running maximized? I can only force it to the center of the screen with the help of AutoSizer, very weird. If I resize the Win Task Manager window, it does seem to remember the size and position, but it refuses to run maximized.

Another bug that I noticed in Windows Explorer, when you sort files by date, and let's say you download a new file, then it won't be sorted correctly, it will end up in the bottom of the list. And then you will have to refresh the view. No such bug in Win 8.1, so seems to be a blunder from M$.

 

It's always behaved this way including in Win 7 as I recollect. If you close Win Explorer and reopen it, the downloaded file will appear at the top of the lost.

 

I don't believe this bug is present in Win 8.1, if I download a file it ends up on top of the list, without having to refresh. But I don't know if it depends on sorting options, I always use Group By Type, with view in details, sorted by date modified (descending).

I have to say that the Settings app is pretty good, but I sometimes still use the Control Panel, I don't think that M$ should remove it.

BTW, did you guys notice that both Win 8.1 and Win 10 can't load all apps that are supposed to auto-start? Probably because it's too busy loading the ridiculous amount of M$ services that are probably not even needed to make the PC function. Also, why on earth don't they offer Quick Launch as a standard feature? I have always hated the stupid "Pin to Taskbar" feature.

BTW, I see that somehow "balloon notifications'' in the system tray have stopped working. For example, SpyShelter has all of a sudden stopped notifying me when it auto-allows certain actions. Have you guys ever seen this on Win 10? I will try to fix this via the registry:

PC Settings > System > Notifications and actions

Make sure you haven't turned them off or perhaps used some tweaking program like O&O ShutUp10 or the likes to turn them off
