Great article, JR. TY! I concur with a good many of the reasons stated, plus to be honest, I'd sprinkle in some avoidance as a reason for not upgrading. Not a lot, just a little. It's a calculated risk, as are so many things in life. :)

Page42, you're welcome! Until this old mule PC dies, I'm still happy with my Win7 64-bit. :) Take care.

100% the same in this camp only with Windows 8.1 which is a Workhorse. Platter HDD's not SD's and we're quite satisfied.

2 machines, both 7x64. I've never had an OS run as good as 7. In my time I've had Windows 3, 95, 98, 2000, XP and 7. :isay:

Yeah, I am very happy with my 8.1. I am using it since 2015 and didn't encounter a single issue so far. I won't upgrade until I am forced into it (not before 2023 at least).

Three machines, one runs 10x64, the other 7X64. I never use 10: invasive, spying, heavy, new Menu Start not intuitive, and especially 10 has nothing more useful than 7 for me. And some 10 update go wrong or create issues.

There are always those who will insist that Windows 7 is better than 10. I found the following to be somewhat concerning. Tens of thousands of computers running unsupported operating systems.

I don't say that 7 is in absolute better than 10. I find 10 heavy, full of unwanted programs, processes and Microsoft practices ( also if I know that there are tricks to stop part of them ). And I live good with Seven. Moreover, many Windows users hate that regurarly Microsoft substitutes the Windows version and search to force the users to change. Using 7 or 8 it's also a way to say NO to Microsoft.

Yes, I still run Win7 64-bit in my main PC, and yet my new laptop runs Win10 2004 (soon 20H2) so I'm in between worlds, running comfortably on both.

As I said before, once the PC takes a dive, the next one will be Win10 and so it goes. :)

Win 8.1 here and no plans to move to 10, although I do have a full backup of the latest version of 10 on an external drive. Tried the newest 10 and it's slower, full of useless c**p I don't want and you can't uninstall. My main complaint, though, is I don't want MS deciding I need the next latest and greatest. Give me the option, and let me choose whether to upgrade or not.

I find Windows 10 to be heavy on some low-end systems, on which even Windows 8 runs really well. But I've upgraded and done clean installs of Windows 10 on around 100 old systems and almost always it has run well. One of the computers I'm running Windows 10 on, is a 14-year-old Core Duo (not even Core 2 Duo) laptop which originally came with XP and Windows 10 runs well on it. Well enough for there to be no reason to run an older version of Windows.

I don't care how many processes are running, I only care about performance. If Windows 10 runs smoothly on a computer, that's all that matters to me. If it is slow, I'll use an older operating system.

I still like Windows 7 a lot. But in my case, I see no reason to use Windows 7 on a computer that Windows 10 runs well on. Particularly, considering that Windows 10 can be used for free. You can still upgrade for free from 7 or 8, or install Windows 10 without activating. It's legal to use Windows 10 without activating it and there are no time limits.

I already have 10 in my newer pc. Saying that it's heavy - probably I used the wrong word - I mean that I don't like the Menu Start and the way to find many things. And I'm worry for many services and processes that work for Microsoft interest ( telemetry is one )....as for the updates system. Moreover, I 'm not able to update the 10 version: every time after the update it says me: impossible to update.... to use 10 for me it's only a
unnecessary annoyance, but I don't deny that others are happy with 10.

Boy gang this really sticks in my crawl. Pls don't get me wrong , im all for the newest and impoved models/series and with Windows 11 on the scene (nearly) already, we all know Microsoft (with it's current CEO and managing group) seem can't or rather, still won't look at the whole picture of their own tech O/S historical conglomerate by revisiting previous albeit nearly outdated O/S systems when, IMHO, it would be in their interest & wouldn't cost them all that much to revamp 7 and 8 and still keep them even more relevant, not cast behind them, and in turn their user's would be encouraged in their decision they made a excellent choice then and would easily add Windows 11.

That previous Windows 9 avatar sported for awhile was indictitive of an expectation exactly as it would become without the naming convention. You Windows 7 x64 folks know what i mean even more so. It continues to stand the test of time and third party security is definitely no slouch in preserving the workings of those machines too.

At any rate hats off and big thumbs up to our tireless good @mood in keeping update notices for us to continue to relax in our choice of what microsoft may deem irrelevant soon but is nothing of the sort by any stretch in reality.

Well Easter, at least you'll still receive security updates until January 2023. After then, it would of course be risky to continue on 8.1
