Guys what do you think about an online updater that would keep your plus build always up to date, and I would only put the major releases or critical fixes on github but other than that like the explorer issue would be only available as an online update?

It's fine for me but do it in a way is not downloaded and updated automatically, a legend and button to accept would be great.

    So an absolute YES.

An absolute NO. An online only way to get updates are a plague.

I would strongly suggest you have two channels, a "beta" or "pre-release" one, for the people who like to test the bleeding edge, let that sit a week or two in a feature freeze state, and if then once everything is reported as good/no major issues, do a "stable" release to everyone who demands stability from this sort of thing. There should be no bugs in the Stable releases except for the super minor of minor edge of edge cases.

I know, i downloaded fine using Edge, installed Plus version and... Steam is working again! Thanks David, you are my hero.

I don´t like the idea to update Sandboxie online, i prefer github releases.

As long as an option to disable this behaviour would be implemented also, this feature would not hurt anyone in my opinion, mostly it would help most people that are not so tech savy, that need to reinstall all the latest releases.

    Hi @Rainwalker, Have you tried over-install 0.5.1 with 0.5.2?
    https://github.com/sandboxie-plus/Sandboxie/releases/tag/v0.5.2
When I want clean Sandboxie install. I uninstall Sandboxie-Plus/Sandboxie install... same as any program....thru Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall or Settings > Apps > Uninstall. Retaining Sandboxie.ini at C:\Windows\Sandboxie.ini...retains settings. I save copy of Sandboxie.ini...just in case. Just me.

You do realize installers already remove or replace the relevant files right? They'll even "kill" locked/or in use processes when needed and prompt for reboots if needed as well. There is no need to go through extra hoops like "uninstall first".

Greetings bjm, yes I understand. What happened was I skimmed over the Control Panel/Uninstall etc panel too quickly and missed the entry. Oh well, such is life. Thanks for responding.

If there is an online update then please only for stable versions and only after user consent. (Or stable channel as default setting and users can opt in for beta versions)
Since the files are not signed my guess would be auto update could get some users depending on their AV in trouble with fresh betas...

With the latest version of the classic v5.45.1 64bit my whole system is back on track. Before I uninstalled the previous version and manually removed the drivers. Now everything seems to be going fast and smoothly.

    Thanks David for the development.

I'm not seeing files recovered as soon as the download is finished.
I'm seeing the File Recovery (Quick Recovery) dialog when Edge is closed.
    @DavidXanatos
    I'm reporting "things working ok"....for me, here > #305

Don't worry I wasn't thinking of it being the only way, I was thinking more on the lines of:
    1. I upload a major release to github
    2. people install it
    3. minor fixes like the explore bug now gets rolled out as incremental updates through the online channel
    4. at some later point i release an other major version with those fixes and other changes, back to 2

I mean ... mmh... I could put the patch files i.e. zips with new sandman.exe and possibly QSbieAPI.dll on github and make the downloaded get it from there. Than you can also update manually if you want.

So pretty much as it is now, just with extra steps.

Now I realize that's sub optimal as every major release will contain new features and possibly fresh bugs.
So two channels would be a much better idea indeed.

The updater.exe is just going to be another thing AV's flip out over, a two channels plan is a good idea, stable releases should be aimed for every ~3 months or so, similar to how its been done in the past by the past developers.

Let me see if I can explain this a bit better about my 'recover files' problem.

In Plus 0.5.2. I have downloads folder set as the place to recover my files to.
I do not have immediate recovery selected.
    I download a file.
Using Windows Explorer I can see it in the Plus downloads folder.
    I close my browser.
    The sand empties.
The file is not in my downloads.

So now I open Plus gui and right-click on Default box and select 'recover files'
The dialogue appears and I can recovery the files.

The issue/bug is the recovery of files dialogue only happens by using right-click on default box.
There is no recovery of file dialogue given when I shut the browser.

Plus keeps the downloaded file even when the Sandbox shows empty until I use right-click on default box option.

mmh... showing empty means only that no programs are running not that there are no files in it.
so you expect the recovery dialog to some when you close the browser?
Have you set the box to auto delete?
