Yes thanks a lot. I knew I saved the PDF on my disk, but I couldn't remember the name. I wanted to see against which code-injection methods SS protects against.
To clarify, no need to do research because it's already mentioned in the report. SS passed them all, but I still think it's a pity that it doesn't automatically protects against process hollowing like HMPA.
@Rasheed187 Thanks for mention...we have hard situation in the World and in our country too. I would not expect to much revolutionary changes in SS in nearest predictable time BTW...this is free version review and quite interresting discuss about limitation of it https://malwaretips.com/threads/spyshelter-free.105169/
BTW, I have finally checked out SS Free on Windows 10, and I'm afraid it's useless to me since you can't disable monitored actions. Well, it's actually not useless since I use it as a network monitor. But cool that SS has an option to choose DPI scaling size, to make the GUI look bigger or smaller depending on your preference. Too bad that alerts are not displayed in the correct resolution, this seems to be a bug. All in all quite a disappointment, but you can always buy a yearly license of course. Because the good news is that the HIPS does seem to work correctly on Win 10.
I'm using the free version with everything pretty much at default levels, with one exception - Settings|Security is set to "Auto Allow - Medium Security Level". I have been using SS for more than a year and I am very comfortable with it, finding its operations to be very simple (basically just minimal popups requesting 'Allow or Deny') which is never a difficult decision. Of course there are more of those popups during program installations, but that's to be expected. SS Free is an important part of my computer/cyber security which also includes WiseVector-StopX and Shadow Defender. But as good as WVSX and SD are at doing their designed operations they cannot stop malware from establishing an outgoing internet connection; SS Free can (its outgoing firewall protection is superb)! So I recommend SS Free and wouldn't be without it.
Thank you wendy for the recomendation.it sounds good and keylogger protection they said is very strong at stopping keylogging activities.thanks again
FYI, the free version doesn't provide Keylogger protection, just Firewall & HIPS which meets my needs just fine (as I explained in my edited reply to you).
Version 12.3 Free is a bit differ...see post #120 https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/spyshelter-12.422366/page-5#post-2962636
@ichito, Have you (or the developer) confirmed that keylogger protection is actually operational in the free edition of v12.3?
I have not seen any operational evidence of that functionality in v12.3 (Free), nor is it 'check-marked' on the SS website as one of the free edition features!
And another weird thing that I noticed is that in the newest SS Free, "Application Execution Control" seems to work. For some reason I'm getting alerts about child processes being launched, I actually don't want this, it's very annoying and unhandy.
Win 10 Pro 20H2 test system; SS 2.3. Interesting. I never got around to noticing all the Keylogger settings under the list of monitored actions are now enabled, no longer tagged "Premium, Firewall." Ditto on the changes noted by ichito in post #120. Odd that there are only the System Protection and Firewall toggles on the Protection panel. I wonder if the former toggles ALL the non-firewall stuff, unlike the Premium and Firewall versions which have several more targeted toggles. Seems like SpyShelter Free has become SpyShelter Almost-Firewall.
Can SS block unauthorized scripts such as .bat or .js? How and when would it trigger against, for example, this type of threat?: https://www.cybereason.com/blog/the-sodinokibi-ransomware-attack Thanks.
All hips are capable of blocking or at least alert when its(WScript) is trying to install and that goes with all file type downliads
Hmm, I don't believe I'm experiencing that - perhaps it is the result of an optional setting? I'm running SS with all default settings except for one, Settings|Security>Certified Applications, which I lowered from the default setting "Auto Allow - High Security Level" to "Auto Allow - Medium Security Level".
