I need to know if I should accommodate for windows XP compatibility going onward, It would be expedient to entirely drop XP support from the kernel driver.
Also for a proper driver signature for windows other than 10 I need to make the driver pass WHQL testing, for 7 I think I can manage, but for XP I think its hopeless.

i think you should drop xp support already. it's a deprecated os. don't waste your time & resources on it.

I'm still using Win XP a lot on virtual machines, but latest Sophos version works fine there. Not sensible info stored on these virtual machines so i voted for the second option.

    I voted for option 2.
Your sbie v5.40 (which you fixed to work for XP) is running fine on my XP SP2 machine!
Please concentrate your efforts on Windows 7/10 (I use both, in addition to XP).

Using a sandbox in Windows XP has limited functionality:

    https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/ /master/docs/design/sandbox.md

The sandbox is as strong as the Kernel it rests on.
I still use Windows XP today, but I would never use SBIE so you can delete the support.

    P.S. I have not voted.

That's my opinion too. (I have voted in this sense.)

Thanks for all your work, David. :thumb:

For the few things, which i do from time to time on an old Win-XP machine, the Sandboxie version 5.40 (which you fixed to work for XP) is sufficient enough. No need for me to invest more time and work into this old OS.
For Windows-7 the support is important to me, because i can't easily switch my system to Windows 10. So i hope, that the support for Win-7 will be continued.

Support for 7 will be continued for many years, as windows 10 really suxxxx
What I may drop however even before XP is Windows Vista x64 support, but no one is using that abomination of an OS anyways LOL

I am still using Windows XP SP3 but as a standalone system (no internet access). Some software I use will not work in anything beyond XP. I use Sandboxie to run this software allowing different configurations without affecting the core registry. The Sophos version was functional until yesterday when the licensing expired. It should expire on the 13th, but no luck there. I updated registration on the last day the licensing server was available.

I uninstalled the Sophos Sandboxie v5.22 completely from the system and installed your XP version. Everything went well until reboot. After reboot, the system went into a loop of continuous rebooting. I had to restore the previous XP to get the system running again. I repeated this several times, getting the same results. I could not find any logs to send.

Do you have any suggestions on getting your XP version running? Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    @NorthernLights

There was an old tip and it probably only applies to the older Sandboxie versions not the latest version

Particularly as the old update servers no longer work

I've probably got the wrong end of the stick but it might be helpful if you are xp user using an older Sandboxie

'Also you probably want to add the tip for the XP-users (or for all users of version 5.28 and older), that they can manually edit the sandboxie.INI in path c:\windows, and change the value of "SbieCtrl_NextUpdateCheck" to 2124300600, so that the update question is delayed to 25th April 2037. Otherwise they have to click "Next week" every week, and "Never" always adds the date of 18th April 2019 into the INI and so the Update-Question-Loop is restarting. The conversion between Unix-TimeStamp und readable date can be made for example at www.onlineconversion.com/unix_time.htm

    4080758400 is 25 April 2099

    9080758400 is Sun, 04 Oct 2257 08:53:20 GMT

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately I have already done this long ago.

I do not use Windows XP as my main driver, I just use it for very specific software, so this is not super important. It would be nice to get David's SandboxieInstall32_xp.exe (v5.40) working. I don't care about it being the latest, just would like to remove the Sophos version.

I have tried installing David's v5.40 over the existing Sophos v5.22. The install locks up at around the 1/3 mark. To continue, I had to kill the Sandboxie services, permitting the installation to complete. Upon reboot of the system, it did the continuous reboot loop that the clean installation did. I am suspecting this issue has something to do with the Sandboxie services but I lack the knowledge to trace it.

I cannot locate a post having the same issue. I don't think I'm the only one but might be the only one posting it. For the time being I can set the system date back a week and all works fine. This is by no means a fix.

Thank you again for your assistance. I will continue my quest.

SBIE 5.40 installed just fine for me.
@sdmod thankyou for that next update tip. Don't know when that started happening on my SBIE but it's been a royal pain. Will try it out.

    Voted number 2.
Using SBIE version 3.62 here. Only need SBIE for the browser.
Tried the update tip a while ago, didn't work, probably my mistake, will try again.
Thank you for your hard work, David.
