So this has nothing to do with Chromecast dongles.

It's a bit more buggy on Ubuntu. On macOS (so far) the only really annoying bug I've encountered is that I have to use <Command> <V> to copy/paste directly into the run bar as the drop-down 'paste' option is not highlighted indicating there is nothing to paste. Although this might be a Mac thing.

On Ubuntu Vivaldi refuses to remember my password for ProtonMail (this is an old bug never fixed), occasionally junk is left on the desktop after downloads, and finally there are serious GUI rendering issues. These junk files/containers can only be removed by a reboot. When I talked to Vivaldi about it they had no real answers. One moderator informed me that it was because 16.04 LTS is out of date. It isn't, apart from being newer than Win 10, it's supported until the end of April next year. When I upgrade Ubuntu maybe Vivaldi will run better. IMHO Vivaldi is starting to resemble Opera ASA (Presto). I loved Opera and ran it for years, but it had more bugs than a rainforest.

You are totally right, I couldn't sign into Gmail either when "Chromecast media-router" was disabled. I really wonder why on earth Vivaldi has given these options to disable these "Google Extensions" as they call it, it will only confuse people.

I haven't got a clue why, but if you disable it, Gmail won't work.

Yes, sometimes I also think there are too many features, I wonder how many users are actually using them. Especially when I quickly want to change a certain setting it gets a bit tricky sometimes, but luckily there's a search function in the "Settings" tab. I have to say that on the Windows OS, stability and performance is pretty good.

BTW, what I still can't figure out is why Vivaldi fails to display YouTube comments. It doesn't seem to be related to extensions, I believe I've already tested this. And I have just noticed that on my new Win 10 laptop from Lenovo, Instagram Stories don't work either. But this doesn't seem to be related to Vivaldi since it also doesn't work on the old Edge (non Chromium), can this be a hardware issue? Seriously it's so annoying why can't stuff just work?

I'm sorry to hear that. BTW, all of a sudden Instagram Stories is working again on Vivaldi, so seems that the bug was caused by Instagram. I did change some site settings via the padlock icon in the address-bar, but after changing everything to "block" again, it still worked. So it shouldn't be related to site settings. But still weird that it only didn't work on my laptop, on the desktop I have never had this problem.

I updated Vivaldi on my Gnu/Linux system (Debian) from version 3.1.something to 3.5.2115.81 and unfortunately it isn't as stable as it was.

I dunno, because it may be related to GPU acceleration changes in upstream Chromium and/or driver issues/lack of features (Ivy-bridge Intel GPU). I disabled GPU acceleration adding some flags to command line:
    Code:
    ./vivaldi --disable-gpu-compositing --disable-gpu-sandbox --disable-gpu
and now it works, but of course it will not be as fast as it may be. I will experiment with GPU-related flags a little bit more.

It's started to get a bit weird on macOS now. However, I have discovered that disabling hardware acceleration (Ubuntu) does seem to remedy the GUI rendering problems.

    So that's something.

It's crazy, I've discovered that Vivaldi will only display comments on YouTube when I'm logged into my Gmail account. It's a complete mystery why this happens, because it doesn't happen on my other Vivaldi versions that I installed as portable versions.

Latest update reoriented and speeded it up as it normally was before they tinkered with something.

On another note I found YouTube comments are almost nonexistent since google screwed it up. It used to load comments great then it went kaput. I blame that on YouTube. I use Palemoon for a comparative browser to check and see if its google messing with YT.

Well I'm not sure if I should blame YouTube, because like I said it work just fine in my other Vivaldi profiles and also in Edge and Firefox. Not sure what broke this on my default Vivaldi profile. On the other hand, perhaps you're right, perhaps I should clear all cookies and delete my whole cache or something. And it's weird that it does work when I'm logged into my Google account. BTW, did you know that you can even zoom Vivaldi's GUI? Very handy when you're working on high resolution monitors.

Believe it or not, after clearing my cookies, which I believe I already tried, YouTube comments work again, it's the weirdest thing ever.

BTW, I'm currently investigating the annoying "download warning" when you download .exe files in Vivaldi. Apparently this is some kind of Chromium "security" feature and Vivaldi developers have never been able to disable this warning. And some people say that they never see it at all. To my surprise I just noticed that I now all of a sudden don't get this warning anymore while downloading certain apps on SnapFiles and Softpedia, so I wonder what has changed.
