In the past, with Windows 10 and previous versions, driver updates were mostly handled by Windows update. I've found very few cases where Driver Manager would find drivers that Windows Update wouldn't find.

I have always been reluctant to use a third party driver updater thinking that Windows Update is good enough and safe until I tried IObit Driver Booster. It found and updated many drivers which successfully passed WHQL tests (Microsoft's system for testing of third party drivers) but Windows Update didn't see them at all. Since then my machine has been free of drivers fault what cannot be said when driver updates were managed by Windows Updates.

In my experience up to Win 10 version 1909 which I installed as a clean image, the display adapter driver for AMD would be updated only through 'device manager', Windows Update wouldn't react and I couldn't even set my display brightness. With version 20H2 I received a driver update for the AMD driver through Windows Update. Now I don't know whether this is due to the fact that my machine's brand is Samsung, and there have been terrible problems between MS and Samsung in terms of software updates...

Something I've noticed for at least 2 updates in the recent past: my free disk space is about 4 GB less but there are no update junk files to clean up. Typically, Disk Cleanup clears about 2 GB more or less (the numbers never match) but it didn't happen this time.

Guess I'll open TreeSize later and try to ferret out where they're hiding. :cautious:.

No it's not screen ghosting related to the monitor or gpu. Sometimes after deleting/moving a file/folder or shortcut from the desktop it will reappear as a ghost later. You can see it but you can't delete it. It's 0 bytes and the system thinks there's nothing there when you try to delete it. There's a few tricks to make it disappear or you can wait till you boot up the OS again. It usually disappears after a boot.

A few others in this thread and myself noticed this issue with 20H1. It hasn't been fixed in 20H2 yet apparently, or I haven't received the update to fix it yet.

Agreed on all points. I have had this happen to me even yesterday at work. This was with a fresh install of 20H2.

Do you guys have "Hide protected operating system files" unchecked in folder options? I have seen similar things happen when that is unchecked. Not that it makes it less broken if so.

I always have "hidden files, folders, or drives" unchecked and visible, but I leave hidden OS files checked. I'll reveal hidden OS files every now and then for a particular reason, but then I change them back to hidden.

@Trooper Mine is a fresh install too.

I have a general question. I see that a lot of you guys seem to be quite excited by all of these Win 10 updates, but do you all consider these updates to be necessary in the first place? Is it about new features or more security? I really don't see the point of all of these updates, and they often seem to introduce problems and annoyances.

Do consider that if an update were to be perfect most likely no article will be made out of it and fewer people will talk about Windows.

It was worth a shot. Apparently not a factor here.

    @Rasheed187
Some of these updates are better than others. I keep up to date as I have to test software with each build. That said I do find 20H2 to be my favorite Windows 10 build so far. No issues that affect me.

Is anyone encountering issues installing optional update: KB4580386? I've tried several times using Windows Update from Settings, as well as the downloaded .msu file, but nothing works. It stalls for about 20 minutes at 20%, then it finally looks like it's finishing, only to end with failure to install. In Event viewer it shows:

I'm still on version 1909 (OS build 18363.1139), as my region in Canada I guess is still in the Dark ages regarding latest available builds. It looks like a number of members here are on latest 20H2.

    EDIT:

Resolved. I restored a recent image created a couple weeks ago and the update took.

If I open 'System' from the Control Panel I get that Settings about page as mentioned.
However if I press the start flag and immediately type System Information I get the 'old' system info page, so no need for me to use a workaround.
Not sure why this is happening :)
