    I have
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\default-browser-agent.exe
    completely blocked in HIPS with no issues at all.

    no need for, just uninstall that feature, manually delete the task! or remove "default-browser-agent.exe" after installation. HIPS is a cannon on a little bird.
    some basics:
    https://www.askvg.com/tip-disable-default-browser-agent-after-installing-mozilla-firefox/
    no need for any hips or more.
    to turn off telemetrie just use a policy file "policies.json"
    Code:
    {
      "policies": {
        "DisableFirefoxStudies": true,
        "DisablePocket": true,
        "DisableTelemetry": true,
        "NetworkPrediction": false
      }
    }
    i am sure this has been written more than once in this forum.

    You know what, I had all the Mozilla data collection options in Firefox disabled, but on a recent update I found then all enabled, and it wasn't me who enabled them. Using a HIPS GUARANTEES disabling of telemetry and privacy-invasive options, while using your suggestions, while I appreciate you offering them, they are too unreliable and can't be trusted. The program and/or O/S often "finds a way" to put them back.

    BTW, the HIPS when configured properly, will secure your system analogous to "Fort Knox enclosed within ADX Florence" LOLBins? no chance Ransomeware of any kind? no chance. My browsers are locked down similar to using Mandatory Access Control, though not from within the kernel as in Linux.

    the prefs wont change, not really, but it could be possible that the policies.json was erased on update. I do update manually with extracting files which include some more of this.
    Sorry, but this is BS. Mozilla's telemetry do not contain any personal data nor is spying on you.

    Nevertheless, you have my full agreement about this unnecessary task which overrides the question if I want Firefox as my default browser when I say "No!". This task is only about the question later why Firefox is not the default browser.

    What I can say to you that this policy file with such content disables any telemetry but not such features like safe lists.

    What else I can say is that any regular Firefox installation has a ping routine:
    https://www.ghacks.net/2019/04/20/m...yperlink-ping-tracking-by-default-in-firefox/

    It has much more benefit to extract the setup file, delete the crap and then run the installation. I am performing this routine since ages, only the amount of work has been raised. what else - people using Edge are telling much more about usage as they know. Edge is creating a world wide system id (not user - system), its deeply woven with windows and a possible microsoft account. And even if edge is not used windows 10 2004 transmit a lot more by default than firefox. And you cant block windows using a hips otherwise you would drop it dead. A simple comparison between firefox and the used OS, here: windows. And I am pretty sure that your used hips also transmits data about your behavior.

    Well i know a lot of hips, but at least those blocked my work here. It was a good lesson but not more. what i can say that my system is secure, it could be more but that wont help me and my work.

    The information above is how to deal with it without knowing or using any additional tools :p

    The additional tool (HIPS) is about a lot more than simply stopping telemetry; it's about controlling anything and everything, especially a trusted program like your web browser that runs with many privileges and even potential bugs (think zero day) that could be utilized or compromised by malicious data. A year ago I didn't know what a LOLBin was, but I do now, so they, too, are restricted for good reason.

    And I do get it the telemetry data doesn't contain personally identifiable information, but it still sends browser stats and such. I' prefer to stop it dead.

    Anyway, this about Firefox specifically, so I don't want to drift OT.

    If you became (a rare) victim of a lolbin anything before has failed, HIPS is only able to restrict actions but the system itself was already compromised and so there is only one way left out - clean restart and to fix the vulnerabilities.

    Just getting better and better. Almost as fast as Brave on loading pages now, we are talking way less than a second slower, but I guess my 20 extensions slows it down a bit...
