As I have been stating for a while now, this product is no longer state of the art and effectively has lost much of its edge after being spun off from Symantec.....

I figured after the spin off it would die off but this is the first bad scores I have seen. I wouldn't give them money at this point, definitely. When you consider they have been on version 22 for actual years now you have to figure active development is pretty much not happening.

The details of the IP ownership of the Norton engine, SONAR etc. are still not clear. The agreement signed between STARS and Norton won't last forever. To my knowledge, Norton lifelock does not own the IP and is effectively a licensee of Symantec tech. With Broadcom going in a different direction, I don't expect development to continue in anything but maintenance mode....

Definitely, this product has lived its course. No point investing in Norton anymore.

Personally I throwed Norton out the window since 4 years ago because of how terrible its signatures and R&D became, basically Norton detection rate is almost all about cloud reputation and the problem with its approach is the hilarious high false positive rate (much higher than those AV tests labs suggests).

trouble makers win the pot. this time those, next test others, who cares. some pay money for same security as windows defenders offer. it does not matter if you are hit by one or more impacts. daily performance means nothing. how many of you consider a change because of this test? be honest!

Well I use NOD32 and despite ESET having average scores for years with AV-C, I mean it's sad that the Free Panda beats NOD32 in such a test despite ESET's long history, experience, behavioral detection yada yada. But I still use it and have confidence in it in blocking threats. I visit fishy sites sometimes and try software left and right, not once has NOD32 failed me or given me a false positive. If it says it's a virus, then it definitely is which is a big deal for me as I don't want to go researching and uploading files to virus total all day long because I don't trust my AV (cough cough K7 the King of FPs)

No, we are throwing Norton away for the reasons @Firecat and I have stated above. It is a dead product that hasn't seen a full version number increment in several years. It only continues on the reputation of the man it was named for that has not been involved for many years.

Yes, one of the best, superb file scanning, no stupid HTTP scanner to slowdown my internet or mess with my VPN, no bloatware, very light. Bought a 3 year/3PC subscription as they have a sale right now

Nice. A sale you say? :)

Which Vipre product are you using? I see three for home users.

EDIT: Just downloaded a trial of Advanced Security. Feel free to PM or take this to another thread as to not derail this one. Thanks.

    PM Sent.

When you install it, there's not much to configure, I just went into settings and changed it to Performance from the default (security) and just added a few exclusions and I was good to go.

That's funny, I have also been using the famous Noh Antivirus for the last 12 years, but it's only recommended for folks who know what they are doing. :p

No HTTP scanning sounds interesting, I also hate this stuff. But I still don't like it that most AV's rely on the cloud, I simply do not trust it.

    I wouldn't agree with that.

If you review this: https://www.av-comparatives.org/tests/malware-protection-test-march-2020/ , 17 vendors were tested.

6 had identical online and off-line detection rates.

5 had online and off-line detection rates where the differences were 6% or less.

That leaves 6 vendors where significant differences existed between online and off-line detection rates.
