Hi, there was an update to the Platform, it's now at version 4.18.2008.7. I forced Windows Update and there it was. Did it come thru for you?

Still error- and warning-free insofar as Network Inspection Service and Memory Integrity are concerned. :isay:

Yes, thanks. I eventually found out how to force the update, and after re-enabling Memory Integrity the NIS is now running correctly through several off-on cycles.

For anyone who still needs to update the platform, the fix that worked for me (via Ten Forums) was to run the following from an elevated command prompt:

    Code:
    reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Defender\MpEngine" /f /v MpCampRing /t REG_DWORD /d 3

    control /name Microsoft.WindowsUpdate

I don't like the title of that article. It might give a user the misconception that Windows Defender was never been able to be disable via registry.

Today WD updated the platform to 4.18.2008.9 on my 1909 during a regular manual signature-update check, with telemetry still set to "required" (basic), no registry hacks, general updates paused til mid-Sept. Memory integrity is on, NIS is still running as it should.

Unless there is a false negative or missed detection.

I would assume Denfender would need signatures to detect those files in the first place.

I like WD but opening new folders/files is still very slow when using WD, will they ever "fix" it? :(

I doubt that they even consider this as a problem.

I see no difference with my Windows version, and I've been alternating with KIS and Avira Pro, lately speed is just about the same within my perception ability.

I experienced something similar two days ago: uploading files to Google Drive, downloading files using a DL manager, copying videos across two sets of hard drives, and browsing some sites. The system began to slow down and the browser froze as the anti-malware program began to take up 100 percent of the network according to the task manager. I can't remember experiencing similar when I used KSC.

Also, tests like those depicted in videos like this one might help:

Is part of the defender itself. If your question rely on the news, it only means that you can not use defender to download anything any longer (which means no hijacking or injecting to download malware). this includes or should include that file. Updates = downloads are done by system/windows update

New laptop. Currently I am leaving the default security in place as with a new CPU there are more features. This is the first PC where I have been able to turn on "Memory integrity" and it works. I have not encountered any issues. I assume the recommendation is to leave it on if it works? I know there were recent issues with it but to my understanding they have fixed it.

I don't understand how anyone could even consider using Windows Defender after seeing the AV-Comparatives results. Sure you may think it's ok because you got a new laptop but once you disable it it's like you just upgraded your new laptop even further. I've tested it on multiple computers and everything is slower with Windows Defender, installing apps, opening apps, even loading folders which have custom icons they load one by one despite me having a super fast NVMe SSD as you see in my signature but hey, it's your computer, do what you wish. I'd use Panda Free AV any day of the week over WD if I wanted to go free.
