Thanks for the info. It's really weird, lately it seems to happen less frequently. But it only started after I installed TW so that's why I figured it must be the problem. But if you say that the newest TW version doesn't use WMI, then of course I will upgrade as soon as possible. The latest version is v3.0.7, correct?

I had to remove Tinywall because 3.05 did the same thing as 3.0.7. This is on Win 10 2004 and a HP desktop with a AMD 2 core CPU. Last time I get a 2 core anything, it was used as a replacement for a Dell laptop which was a waste. When you go to a Manf. support site and get a driver that is so far off of what is needed, I will never buy Dell anything again. I will stick with Intel from now on.

Why wouldn t you build a PC on your own , an AMD Ryzen CPU based computer for example, with a 4-8-16 threads CPU ?
Some users reported strange issues with the W10 2004 build and most of them are related to video drivers, and it seems it s the OS maker in guilt here.Try some older Windows build , like 1909, if you can.

Too old and used to build my own, but gave up when I moved into the apartment life. Also had a nice ham station in New Jersey. Such is life !
I have 2004 running on four machines.

Hi, that's because of the 64 vs. 32-bit installer.
The workaround is to uninstall the old version before installing the new one.
To avoid losing your settings and rules, you can export them from the Manage window before the uninstall. Then you can import them again after installing the new version.

That's okay. The 32-bit vs 64-bit difference is only in the installer. TinyWall will still run as a 64-bit application on a 64-bit machine, and 32-bit otherwise.

Can I assume that for the 32-bit system, last release was 2.1.14?

The latest version (any version starting from 3.0.5) works for both 32- and 64-bit systems. Only versions 3.0.0 - 3.0.4 were incompatible with 32-bit machines.

There should be logs in C:\ProgramData\TinyWall, please send them to me.

I'm sorry but these are not the logs I meant. There should be a "logs" directory in C:\ProgramData\TinyWall (note, this is NOT the Program Files directory).

Perfect, thanks. Your problem seems to be remnants of an old installation that get loaded instead of the currently installed version.
I'm guessing some files were left in the GAC due to an installer error and those are causing the problem.

    1. First uninstall TinyWall and make sure that neither the service nor the tray icon is running.
    2. Then search your whole computer for any file that contains TinyWall.exe or TinyWall.Interface.dll in its name, and remove them (they'll be probably inside C:\Windows\... somewhere)
    3. Reinstall and TinyWall should work now.

TinyWall v3 does not use the GAC anymore so something like this should not happen again in the future.

Btw for people wondering, TinyWall 3.0.8 is queued up for release with some minor stability fixes (minor because most people should be unaffected), but I'm still waiting for my new code certificate I need for the release to happen. I've already opened a support ticket why it's taking so long. The new certificate will be valid for two years, but it is not an EV certificate so MS SmartFilter might complain in the beginning. It'll go away with time as it gets trained.

Many thanks, I will follow your indications. Problem start when I tried to upgrade from 2.99 to 3.0.7.

Yes, that makes sense. Versions 2.99.x were beta-tests and they've made use of GAC installation for a long time. This was removed in a relative late phase of development, but before 3.0 final was released.

@ultim, a quick question: Does Tinywall display the banner "possibly compromised" for all programs that lacks a digital signature? I just installed DB Browser for SQLite (64 bit), and it seems the executable isn't signed. If I go to Tinywall to allow it to connect, there's the "possibly compromised" banner at the top. The software itself is safe, as far as I can tell. It doesn't really need to connect though, I'm just curious what triggers that warning.

Assuming you are using TinyWall v3 (because this was slightly different in v2), you should only get a "possibly compromised" (red) banner if the executable is signed AND the signature in invalid. Unsigned executables should be blue, and everything else is green. (There is a similar tampering detection for UWP apps too but for that a recent Windows 10 version is required.)

Actually, I just downloaded the DB Browser for SQLite (64 bit) ZIP file and extracted its executable, and TinyWall correctly recognized it as green on my computer. If it is red for you, then you might be missing a recent root certificate in which case you need to install Windows Updates. Also possibly, but less likely, your computer's time is way off so make sure the system date and time is set correctly. If all else fails, try redownloading the file once more.

Hello ultim, this is a question that I tried to solved before to explain here.
I have installed V3 (last) in my PC with W7 32 bits. From the beginning when Tiny starts the "mode" is always "withe" and the explanation is "unknown". I open Tiny and change the "mode" to "normal protection".
I checked for virus using and bootable antivirus and there are not threats.
    Some suggestion?

@ultim Simple question. When I make changes to Application Exceptions do I have to click Apply for it to apply or does it immediately apply and of course for it to remain applied I understand I must click apply prior to Exit? Sometimes I make a few changes and would prefer for those changes to immediately apply rather then going back and forth. Thank you.
