BlackFog Privacy for Android – Change Log 4.0.0 – August 18, 2020 https://www.blackfog.com/change-log-privacy-android/
We also just updated to 4.0.1 to support Android 6.0 and earlier for those of you using older editions.
This is typical of Black Fog (BF) you need to install the all versions version from Microsoft (does not matter what u have in programmes), only then BF will run, can't post links but it's two msi installations for x86/x64 architecture Type in the latest downloads of Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019 x86 : vc_redist.x86.exe x64: vc_redist.x64.exe Only that particular link from MS site works, BF installer is no good at this, simply put broken (reported this issue a year ago)
You actually shouldn't need both editions depending upon your architecture. But we do supply the references inside the installer recommended by MS but have found that some security apps simply block them from being accessed. We could embed them inside the installer but it adds a bit of weight to the installer.
Came back to the Windows 7 PC today and discovered that the BFP icon in the Notification Area is in red. When I hover the mouse pointer over it, I get a notice saying "Protection Inactive." Clicking on that icon (left or right) doesn't do anything. Tried to open BFP via the Start Menu and again nothing visible happened. Task Manager shows the Privacy.exe process running, with 1527 KB Working Set RAM usage. When I clicked on BFP via the Start Menu as described above, a second Privacy.exe with 15,260 KB RAM usage showed up. But the program UI didn't pop onto on my screen. Any ideas as to what might be going on here? UPDATE: I killed the second BFP Privacy.exe process in Task Manager, and a few seconds later the red BFP icon disappeared from the Notification Area. (Remember that it was still there, in red, when I came into the office this morning.) Trying to kill the original Privacy.exe process doesn't do anything, it's still there.
It's actually the service that does all the work. If you have run the updater I would just reboot as I suspect that the new MS libraries are not updated yet and so that should complete the process.
Hello All, @Darren Williams When buying a 3-person PC License plus Android, Do i Get to see what is being blocked etc on all Computers and Phones from My PC? Or is that only with Enterprise? Got 3 kids under 14, So would idealy like the ability To monitor, than having to to check permissions etc all the time on their phones. Have visited this site almost daily for more than a decade Thank you.
@Darren Williams , I'm beginning to suspect the YouTube thing is also affecting Google Image searches. Sometimes while searching for images the first few lines of images appear fine but the lower images don't show at all and there is only a coloured place holder. Last time that happened I disabled Execution as a test, then refreshed that page and all images showed. Normally, refreshing the page gives the same result with the lower images not showing. Don't know what the answer is, but I thought I'd let you know. Cheers!
@coreupted This is an Enterprise feature only as you get complete access to a console and lot of extra features. We actually have plans for a Family type product with this sort of thing in mind. So if you would like to do this as a Wilder member we can upgrade you and you can be a Beta tester for this concept. Just PM me and we can work it out for you. We don't currently have the resources to market this edition yet, but its on our roadmap. @Krusty The team is reviewing some of these rulesets this week so thanks for the info. Google are actively changing a lot of things at the moment so we are waiting for them to complete the main changes before we update ours.
Something strange happened today. BlackFog shutdown and informed me my license had expired. This license is good until next summer. At the moment it is running, but not sure for how long. Darren
Is there a compatibility issue between AdGuard for windows and BlackFog Privacy. The BFP dashboard never shows any activity when AdGuard is active.
I've noticed that BF won't block anything if my browser extensions block every thing on a page, so it is possible AdGuard is doing all the heavy lifting and there's nothing for BF to do. Personally, I would choose one or the other.
I'm talking about AdGuard for Windows, not just the extension. I have a lifetime license for that. I know which one I'd chose!
I meant AdGuard for Windows, not the extension. I don't see why you can't use both. BF offers ransomware protection + many others.
If you are just looking for Ad Blocking then I think the choice is easy. BlackFog is really about Privacy and Ad Blocking is just a small part of the equation. Think of BlackFig as stopping the loss of data from your device generally and one that operates at the network layer rather than being protocol specific (ie it doesn't just work on browsers but across the entire OS). Also you can certainly use both as there are many other things BlackFog will be monitoring, so you don't lose anything in the process.
AdGuard for Desktop also does more than just adblocking (stealth mode, for example), but thanks for clarifying there shouldn't be conflicts, Darren. About to configure a new machine so may use both, in one OS anyway.
