It took me a while, but now since Firefox ESR is crashing constantly in my W10, I decided to uninstall it, and go back to Firefox Stable and leave MP On. So, now I can test and confirm what you told me, that indeed, disabling Multiprocess was what caused my issues with NoScript Settings and Search in my Home page last time I had the stable version.

So, I guess Mozilla is trying all they can to push people away from disabling MP. I also found disabling MP, did not allow me anymore to use Firefox to stream live sports (Baseball, etc), this happened with ESR. With this new install of stable, now I have NoScript Settings displaying correctly, Search in my Home page appears, and I can watch baseball games again using Firefox. Its just my opinion but I think this are the sort of things that Mozilla is doing that's pushing people away from using Firefox. This past few days, I watched games using Edge, and found Edge comfortable and easy for watching the games. That would have never happened if Mozilla did not change whatever it changed recently that makes it impossible now to stream games when MP is disabled.

For now, I am not going to change anything related to MP, and whats under Performance in Options, to see how it goes and feels.

The one thing I need help is what is it that needs to be done to disable the fat URL bar. The old settings to disable url bar focus don't work anymore. I did a little bit of search and what I found was old. If someone knows the way to disable the expanded URL bar in Firefox 79, please let me know. Thanks.

EDIT: Never mind on the expanded focus, I found this instructions. They work with Firefox 79.

Has anyone had any issues with Firefox 79 when you click on a link, bookmark, or a search engine result and it does not take you to that website? But if you click it a second time it does?

sounds like an extension-related issue. check your ad blocker filter lists.

Thanks guys that is a bummer. I also am running Firefox in strict mode. Maybe that is doing it?

@imdb I'd have to post it here as I am not sure which of the filter lists it could be.

Actually yes, I have, on one laptop at least, @Trooper.

At those times, I have even had it after restarting FF (79) with all add-ons disabled, so I started looking around within FF Options.

Under General>Tabs, does it say any of your extensions (Cookie AutoDelete, Canvas Blocker?) 'require Container Tabs'?
I have, with the option to en/disable it, and change settings.
It seems to me they integrated Multi-Account Containers add-on into FF 79 ... or was it before - if so I hadn't noticed?
(I had installed that add-on on another laptop, but not this machine ... and no Firefox sync ).

    Play around with that?

It has been sporadic and erratic though, and I am not sure I have got to the bottom of it.

nah, you wouldn't. first disable your ad blocker and see if the issue persists. if it doesn't, then disable all the filter lists and enable one at a time, till the issue reoccurs.

yes on both win10 and win7. actually started on ff78 with me. its always the same bookmarks on both machines. ff in standard mode. UBO & decentralyst only extensions. sandboxie5.33.6,OSarmor1.43, voodooshield5.78 on both machines. WD on win10 & bitdefender free on win7. this only happens on maybe 4 bookmarks. i disabled UBO and clicked the bookmark and it made no difference. thank you

I assume this to be a local CDN? It would be the first thing I would try to disable. They have caused me issues in the past.

you mean "decentraleyes"!? It's a request analyzer - i think like ublock - and redirects to its own file base. gorhill is recommending it.

I was assuming that is what was meant. I recommend against it. We installed it at work and did some testing and it broke multiple sites, including our own.

@imdb @paulderdash @topo Thanks to you all. Will continue to look into this. Glad I am not the only one having this issue. It may be hard to reproduce as it does not happen every time. It is strange.

Thanks topo I appreciate it. It is hard to nail down as it does not happen each time. Sometimes it happens with sites that I have bookmarked. Sometimes it happens with a search. For example, I search for something on DuckDuckGo and get the search results. Then when I click on the link it does not open to that page. Then I have to click on it a second time and then it will open.

i use DuckDuckGo on all 3 machines. could this be the common cause?

Wow that would certainly be weird. Guess we can try switching to Google for a bit.

I thought it might be to do with FF Enhanced Tracking Protection, but I think not.

I still think it is something within FF itself, as I had the issue even with all add-ons disabled.
Chief suspect for me is Container Tabs. Try right-click a problem link and Open in New Private Window, or in New Container Tab>Personal (for example) and it works?

Edit: Incidentally, I am also using DuckDuckGo. :D
I do get the issue, just from e.g. a link in an email though, not necessarily from a search link.

as i recall you use ff portable. why don't you create a new profile without any extensions and see if it makes any difference?

My FF is installed, but same intermittent issue in two profiles, one with only password manager extension, no DDG.
