I only use 5.33.6. If this is what you are talking about yes, it is perfectly ok.

Hi clinic. What video player were you using? Perhaps the player has a conflict with Sandboxie, you can try another player.

Also, perhaps your sandbox contents needs to be deleted. You could try running the player in a new sandbox with default settings. No restrictions.

Another thing, if you are not sure the file is really a video, navigate to it using a sandboxed version of Windows/File explorer, and when you get to it, click on the file. If the file is indeed a video, it should run sandboxed using your default video player for that type of video file.

    VLC player

I forgot to mention that im not able to open any format of files inside sandboxie, it gives me the same error to all file formats.

Maybe there is a problem with my windows 10

@clinic I can tell you that VLC 3.0.11 works fine for me on win 10 1909, sandboxie 5.33.6.
If there is a VLC from the windows store and you are using it (delete it and) maybe try the normal installer from their homepage https://www.videolan.org/vlc/ Untitled - Copy.png
Just used it with an mp3 file since you said you had problems with all file types. Red color for my sandboxes.
Try creating a new sandbox and then without any further restrictions try to get VLC running at all.

Bo -- Looking to update from Sandboxie 5.33.1 now in August, 2020, I'm not clear on the status of Tom's project. (I admit I haven't read all 9 pages yet...) Also not clear on where to find the Windows 10 installer for Tom's latest version -- so far all I see are individual components in source code. Can you advise?

I finally found a means of installing Dave's project (5.42.1) -- not a real installer yet, but it works -- so I did that. So far it hasn't solved all of the problems I was having with 5.33.1, and it's introduced at least one new one in that there seems to be no "automatic" link to open the default browser. I'm also having problems getting MS Outlook 2019 to run in sandbox as it had been.

Maybe you can at least answer this one for me in the context of Tom's version: What should a shortcut to open Outlook in its own sandbox look like? My old one was like this, probably not kosher but it used to work in 5.33.1:

    Target: "C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" /box:Outlook "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Outlook.lnk"

    Start In: "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs"

Thanks for any clarifications -- jclarkw

Most video players play well with Sandboxie.

The fact that you cant open any type of video (or perhaps you mean any type of file), it could mean that your Sandboxie installation is corrupted, or maybe the problem is (as you say, could be) your Windows installation.

Try, uninstalling Sandboxie, choose not to save settings, and after reboot, reinstall Sandboxie 5.33.6.

    Link to the installer.

If Outlook is set as your default EMail provider, it should run sandboxed when you click Run EMail Reader via the Sandboxie icon by the clock, or Via Sandboxie control

You could also create a sandboxed shortcut for Outlook and place it in the Desktop. After you create it, when you click the shortcut, Outlook will run sandboxed.

    Creating the sandboxed shortcut.

Sandboxie control>Configure>Windows Shell Integration, Click Add Shortcut icons, Select the sandbox where you want Outlook to run/open sandboxed, Click OK, find in one of the menus the shortcut that runs Outlook and click it. For example if you have a non sandboxed icon for Outlook in your Desktop, in the Sandboxie Start menu for Desktop, look for the Outlook shortcut and click it. After doing that, you ll find the sandboxed shortcut in your Desktop. You could also look for the Outlook shortcut in the Program files menu in The Sandboxie Start Menu, and after finding it, click it. That would also place the sandboxed shortcut in the Desktop.

Im new to Sandboxie and ive tried it for playing Monster Hunter World with my girlfriend (we both have steam accounts and copies of the game)

I use a Aster multseat for her to use with me as well.

My problems are: Steam initializes normaly in sandboxie, but Monster Hunter doesnt, it keeps returning SBIE 2224 - sandboxed program has crashed - monsterhunterworld.exe

Could it be a problem with some missing configuration? could Monster Hunter be a sandboxie incompatible program? Do you guys need more information?

    @SandboxieDev I have a question about license.
How to use the Sandboxie in own commercial projects without GPL license? Can buy the source code or binaries for internal usage?

Bo -- Thanks for laying out these steps. Still doesn't work, however. After displaying the "Updating Office, please wait a moment..." for a while, it displays an "application unable to start" error. (This does not happen when the original (un-sandboxed) link is selected.) Perhaps a problem in Dave's code? -- jclarkw

Guess I'll look forward to this once it's ready. Currently I'm satisfied with SBIE 5.33.6 and Windows Sandbox. It was a bit annoying keeping up-to-date with all the form entry during Sandboxie's last days with Sophos, but hope to see it better than ever and readily available.

J.L. -- Haven't tried Windows Sandbox yet (currently at Windows 10 Pro 1909). Do you find it serviceable for typical Sandboxie tasks, or is it a chore for routine use? -- jclarkw

You are welcome, jclarkw. I dont have or use Outlook so I cant test it but, MS Office programs that update automatically or connect to the internet like C2R are bound to have issues with Sandboxie. So, if when you try to run Outlook sandboxed, MS Office runs a check for update automatically, or tries to update, then I kind of think that it makes sense that the check for updates is likely whats generating your issue running Outlook sandboxed.

Hi wissec, I wish I could tell you something new (an update of the situation) but I got nothing new to say other than, I haven't heard from Tom in a while. A few weeks ago, I was told by Curt that Tom was going through some personal problem. Perhaps this is why I/We haven't heard from him in a while.

My feeling is that Sophos best interest (and to at least save face) is to see this project get going, and to see it start with the right foot and solid. If this doesn't happen for whatever reason, I think it would make Sophos look bad and will hurt them with the public.

FWIW, as of right now, Version 5.33.6 is working just fine with latest W10 build 19041.423. And its supposed to be OK (tested) with FR. So, 5.33.6 should be OK for a while to come.

Yeah, basically I try Sandboxie first, then if it doesn't run properly, Windows Sandbox. For some reason, I had to for Pinta 1.7 that I wanted to try out and see if it can replace GIMP on my cross-platform systems... Some weird .NET GTK# thing kept failing.
